Londons Only and Liverpool football club are devastated. United are the greatest net spenders in the world once again. Champions of Ffp and budgets. Glory Glory Netspend United!!!!!!! Its still bollocks. Net spend, irrelevant.
Well I won't come out with the bollox Rodgers did, but surely with the amount you've spent you're aiming for progress of some sorts as a bare minimum??? A domestic trophy? Top 4 finish? Reaching the final of the Europy?
We've spent **** all. We always have to sell to buy, which clearly restricts any potential progress. We're quite stuck at the moment, unfortunately. There are a bunch of teams with far more financial clout than us.
Ahhh come on, you've sold players and made some decent money and then used that to buy virtually a whole starting 11 at times. It's not like you've sold 10 to buy 10, you've sold 1 to buy 5 or 6 or even more. These are real players. People you are actually playing games with. So to talk about net spend is a cop out. There are teams with more financial clout, hence why the successes I quoted for Spurs above were modest by comparison.
Net spend is bollocks. If you have to use it as an argument for some form of faux achievement for your club, then your club has failed and done so miserably.
We've had to sell our best players for financial reasons and then sell our worst players because they're our worst players. That's going to lead to a lot of changes and a lack of stability and consistency. The media have run it as selling one to buy seven because that's what they do. Not sure why you've fallen for it, to be honest. How is finishing in the top 4 modest, when there are at least 5 clubs massively outspending us? The same is true of the Europa League, where a bunch of clubs drop into it from the CL and unbalance it completely, as well as dragging it out forever. We should have done better in the domestic cups, though. They seem to get less priority because of money, unfortunately.
I can accept all of that, although the money from Bale was used to buy several players iirc? Can't be bothered to go check on Modric and others tbh. What I'm saying is that even when you have 100m to spend, it's not a given that you're going to get players who will deliver success. And yeh, part of it was a little dig back at HIAG as well
They are the 6th highest spenders in England. Around 700million. Claims of poverty are laughable but then again its PNP... What else would you expect.
The summer that Bale was sold, we also sold six other senior players and some fringe ones. We bought 7 to replace them all. Basically evened itself out, in terms of personnel. Spending £100m clearly doesn't guarantee success, but it's even less likely to when you lose your best players in order to do it. When your competition can do so without having to lose anyone major, it makes success even less likely.
Who's claiming poverty? The spending figures that you're using are completely stupid, by the way. I wouldn't have expected anything else though, to be honest.
@Treble Yes, we have spent, but so have all of the teams above us, and they've spent more than us and are all able to pay better wages, so they get better players and more of them. If only Spurs had spent any money, then you could expect to see some improvement on those teams; but that isn't what has happened. Do you see it differently, Treble? Or will you admit that you've been "owned."
Success is relative my little furry friend. I would expect you to have won a domestic cup or made it to the Europy final once in a while, at least. I was owned once btw. By Aliana, a rather vampish vixen of Latvian descent. She could do things with a cajun monkfish you wouldn't believe. Ahhh happy day...
I don't think hiag would pass the fit and proper persons test. So his claims of ownership are somewhat premature.
