Stuart Nelson has finally left Gills today. Nelson was a great Gills keeper who played around 200 games and won quiet a few player of season awards aswell as being the keeper when winning league 2. He was englands number 1 for a number of years by the rainham end. Shame to see him gone but Holy has shown he deserves to be Gills new number 1. Never forgotten and hope he continues playing.
3rd highest ever appearances made by a goalkeeper for Gillingham. England's Number One and a fantastic servant to Gills. Brought us our first Championship in 49 years by finishing in the PFA League 2 Team of the year that season. Finished in the top 3 for Player of the Year Awards in every season barring the last one. One of the most consistent goalkeepers I've seen in a Gills shirt and when the pressure was on, he kept coming back better and better. He's just been unfortunate that Holy's form has been immense this season that he hasn't had much of a look in. Thank you for the memories Nels and best of the luck for the future pal. You've written yourself into Gillingham FC folklore for your achievements and we won't forget you any time soon.
I came across this from 2012, a fair few tributes to the man in here from not606 of old... https://www.not606.com/threads/stuart-nelson.175495/
Thanks for a fantastic 6 years, Nelse! And good luck for the future Still England's #1 (Holy of course does not qualify for that honour)
