The injury to Neimar seems serious, but for how long? But who pays his wages during his non playing time? We all have seen a massive hike on transfer fees, and wages, so who cops the bill for all the time he is off? If we take the figures for top players wages as an average of 150,000 then an injury to a top player for seven weeks means a million in wages. So what if was Messi. Ronaldo, Hazard, Rooney, Gerrard etc etc. I can't remember the exact figure for English players, but it was a pittance in compensation to the clubs from our FA. Its a bit like lending you neighbour your brand new lawnmower and him bringing it back damaged
England players aren't insured for friendlies but they are for competitive games. Newcastle got a few mill when Owen crocked himself at the 2006 WC but Liverpool got nowt when Gerrard got injured in a friendly. But I don't think all FAs insure players - Barca may have to claim on their own insurance, which I'd assume they have for a player as expensive as Neymar. Guess it's just part of football - buy better players, more tiredness and risk of injury from internationals.
Exactly my point Swarbs. We all know that Wembley is a cash cow for the FA and Wembley plc, and for Liverpool to get nowt for Gerrard getting injured playing for England is not fair. If any player gets an injury playing for his country, then they should foot his wages bill for the duration of the injury. Even worse, what if that injury is career threatening, or a 6-8 months out of action? With a star player that could mean missing out on a prem title or a cup run. and the FA pay nowt? The rules should be changed
Sad for him hes injured but good for football that we dont have to watch the **** ****. Terrible player whos been overhyped beyond anything seen before.
Can't say I agree with that. It's fine when talking about Brazil and England and the bigger, better off federations. But what if Bale gets injured playing for Wales and is out for eight months? Can the FAW really afford to pay the £10m or whatever wages Real have stuck him on? And should the FAW be punished for the stupid amounts of cash Real have thrown at Bale, when most of their other players are on much less? Personally I think FIFA should sort out any insurance rather than the national associations, or the clubs should just insure their own players. The clubs are the ones that set the wages after all - why is an injury to Neymar any more serious than the injury Gamboa could have sustained for Costa Rica, just because Neymar is on massive wages and players for a bigger club?
