Neil Warnock Should Have Thought Twice About Letting Gorkss Leave QPR 0 Comments Neil Warnock claimed at the weekend that his QPR defence was at "sixes and sevens" against Fulham. Sixes, perhaps, given the amount of goals they let in Warnock blamed injuries to Matthew Connolly, Danny Gabbidon and Fitz Hall for the 6-0 defeat at Craven Cottage, as the latter had to play despite being unfit because of a lack of personnel. These injuries added to the problems the QPR manager had in defence following Armand Traore's suspension following two yellow cards last week. But a possible answer to his and QPR's problems was playing in blue and white hoops the previous day to their defeat. A few miles down the M4 motorway at Reading, Kaspars Gorkss ended the game bloodied and bandaged as he kept Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough to their third-straight game without a goal. Gorkss is a man familiar to Warnock, because he had sold him to Reading in the summer after claiming he was unwanted following the promotion-winning campaign. Some had claimed the Latvian captain was not Premier League class and it was therefore a good thing that he was moved on to the Madejski Stadium. Warnock said in August, after Reading had signed him in a three-year, £900,000 deal: "Kaspars knew he wasn't going to be in my plans. I spoke to him and said: 'Look, you've been fantastic for me and I think if you can get a good club for three years, this is the time to do it.'" But after conceding six goals against a side that had previously failed to win in the league, there is a strong argument to be made that the current back-up back four are not exactly up to the demands of the top flight either. Warnock admitted: "They sliced through us like a knife through butter. We lost Connolly [on Saturday] and Hall has an injury. We were at sixes and sevens at the back and it showed. I don't think there'll be many days like this. It was bad and Fulham took advantage of it." Meanwhile Gorkss made light of Middlesbrough's Marvin Emnes, who is fast gaining the intelligent play to add to his pace which makes him an exciting prospect. And the Dutchman admitted after the Reading game: "We didn't have many chances, because the Reading defence was very good." Warnock hopes his defenders will be back following the international break and admits he is glad of the two-week rest between Premier League fixtures so he can get his first-choice back four back again. But you can't help but wonder why he allowed a solid performer from last season â who is continuing the form of the previous campaign â to go in the first place. Something must have happened between them because no one in their right mind would prefer hall to gorkss. Really bugs me how we have to suffer as fans because of personality clashes. Given Hall is the first and only option as backup for gabbidon or Anton (f***!), we should never have sanctioned that sale.
He should never have let Gorky go, there is no way he is worse than Gabidon or Hall. We will rue the day.
We missed a leader in the back four on sunday. Clint Hill would have been my choice as a CB over an unfit or fit Hall. Dont gonna say we wouldn't lost on the day with Clint but he would have organized the defense more and i am sure we would not have lost by that many goals because he is just a natural leader and throws everything he's got at you. We did miss that on Sunday.
I agree that Gorrkks would be preferable to Hall....but let's not get carried away....another Rio Ferdinand he ain't!!
Warnock should have done two things, recalled Clint Hill & not sold Gorkss. How he can think that Hall is a better option I am still scrathing my head and wonder if any of the of the following would persist with him Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish, Harry Rednapp, Robero Mancini or even Arsene Wenger. Fitz Hall and Danny Gabbidon two of the worst centre halves I have seen at QPR can any one think of two worse?.
Mentioning Rio ferdinand and comparing him with Gorskks is wrong on 2 counts 1) Gorkks has not spent much time out through injury & 2) Gorkss never got the chance to play in the Premier League.
hall and gorkks are not good enough for premier league, the only reason we still have hall is because hes on a great contract that no other club would match.
Reading FC warrior Gorkss enjoys the battle By Jonny Fordham October 05, 2011 http://www.getwokingham.co.uk/sport/foot....joys_the_battle Kaspars Gorkss insists he is happy to take the pain as long as Reading gain after suffering two blows to his head in a week. Royals’ centre-back is well known for wearing Terry Butcher-style bandages and needed stitches to a nasty cut after he was elbowed in the head during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough at Madejski Stadium. The Latvia captain lost a fair amount of blood, but hasn’t lost his sense of humour as he joked that he is growing his hair to cover the increasing number of scars. Talking about his latest wound, Gorkss said: “It was an elbow to the eyebrow, but what can I do? It’s just part of my job. I’m growing my hair now to cover my forehead.” Follow Royals reporter Jonny Fordham on Twitter here Only the week before he had to be patched up after being kicked in the head in Reading’s 1-1 draw at Coventry City. Gorkss has earned glowing reviews since his £900,000 switch from Queens Park Rangers this summer. The 6ft 3ins international has been a steadying and influential force in a youthful looking Royals back four with an average age of just 23. And he said: “Our shape was definitely better than in the Bristol City game (when Royals came from 2-0 behind to win 3-2), but there are still areas that we can try to improve on.” Gorkss will not train again with Reading until a week tomorrow due to Latvia’s European Championship qualifiers at home to Malta on Friday and away to Croatia on Tuesday. However, the 29-year-old has urged his new club to be more clinical in the final third after failing to score for the fourth time in 10 Championship fixtures this season. He added: “I think we should always try to win our home games. “The draw with Boro wasn’t that bad, though. We had a couple of chances in the first half and a couple more in the second half. “We need to try to build on this now and get some more wins under our belts. This division is very tough, but we want to be up there. “The difference between teams is not that big. Just because teams are up the top at the moment, it won’t necessarily mean they will be there in five months time. It’s a long season.” Reading’s next game is away to Burnley a week Saturday. iReader
Its to late for the whole we should have kept Gorkks debate he's gone lets move on, onwards and upwards
Jeff...Rehamn & Ready. Now thats what I call a couple of crap defenders. Fulha would have scored 16 with those two playing
We should never have let Rodney go either. We can build a whole multi-storey car park made of if onlys.
What's the beerf with Perone - think he's only played the one game in the PL since he arrived from Brazil, against Wigan. It seems OTT to label him anything now. He looked unsurprisingly a bit lost at first at Wigan- but seemd to grow in confidence and adapted better as the game went on. He had a very good header hit the Wigan bar as well - we need our stoppers to chip in with a few goals when so little is coming from the front men, and we need a good aerial presence both forward and back. One of the coaching staff said Perone had a lot to learn yet about the PL - lets hope he learns quick. He looked promising to me.
I've been following the R's since the late eighties, my Old Man since the sixties and we rarely agree on much. But we're both unequivocally certain that Zesh Rehman is the worst player we've EVER seen wearing the Hoops!
