QPR boss Neil Warnock fears he will get axed this month
Jan 8 2012 by Dave Kidd, The People
NEIL WARNOCK fears he will be sacked as QPR manager this month.

It is believed that Warnock’s relationship with Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has reached breaking point after a run of just two points from their last eight Premier League matches.

And only a late goal by Heidar Helguson saved them from FA Cup defeat by League One MK Dons yesterday.

Fernandes has warned his manager that results must improve swiftly if he is to remain in the Loftus Road hotseat, with the club threatened by relegation.

But there are concerns among Warnock’s own backroom staff that he could be axed sooner rather than later.

    Shock

Former West Ham chief Gianfranco Zola is a shock candidate to replace him, although ex-Manchester City and Fulham boss Mark Hughes will also be on QPR’s radar.

Warnock is believed to be unhappy that he does not have enough control over the club’s transfer policy.

Bids have been tabled this week for Blackburn defender Chris Samba and Fulham striker Andy Johnson – and Fernandes has denied he is holding back cash while Warnock is in charge.

But Fernandes is aware that senior players have complaineds about Warnock’s training sessions.

Skipper Joey Barton is no longer said to be on good terms with his manager.

Many fringe players have also been angered about being called in for extra afternoon training sessions.

Warnock was expecting to be sacked by previous owner Flavio Briatore, even after guiding the Hoops to the Championship title last season, but was given a reprieve after the takeover by Fernandes in August.

    Warned

Rangers started well in the Premier League but have not won since mid-November. And Fernandes even warned Warnock that his job could be under threat on twitter on Friday.

Fernandes wrote: “It’s important to note no one job is safe. Results are key. If I don’t deliver I would be the first to step down as chairman. We owe it to the fans. Good money is paid and results are key.

“I will leave no stone unturned to make QPR a success.”

Airline tycoon Fernandes launched an unsuccessful takeover bid for West Ham two years ago, when Zola was in charge at Upton Park. And ex-Chelsea great Zola is known to be on Fernandes’s wishlist.

What concerns me is when clubs are on a bad run, the captain or senior players normally come out and say "don't blame the gaffer, it's up to the players to deliver and we'll band together to turn it around". Well, no one has said a thing at QPR and my gut feel now is the players want him out. They don't want to play for him. Players answer to managers who they can respect and warnock hasn't earnt respect because his record at this level is abysmal.

12th...exactly my feeling - players want him out. Think he's a lost cause.

What about the Amit factor? Warnock is here because of him and Amit has always spoken so highly of him.

"Many fringe players have also been angered about being called in for extra afternoon training sessions" - fook me, but I'd have them all back in training UNTIL we started to win again. And as for Barton being unhappy with NW's training methods - I think I would try and keep my gob shut and START to EARN the £80K a week is alledged to be on. Have yet to see a performance from him that's worth £8.80 - let alone £80K.

senior players complaining about training - so what was different to the start of the season to where we are now? They are the ones that wear the shirt alot of us would love to wear on a Saturday afternoon, they are the ones that earn a wage most of us can only dream about, they are the ones that are happy to take, and not to give anything in return.

    Rant over

Fringe players complaining about extra training sessions??!!! If you are on the fringe you should be putting in all the f****ing effort you can to get in the team.

Definitley worried about the dressing room now. I wonder if NW's policy of naming and shaming specific players in TV interviews is coming back to bite him.

Match officials? Niave players? Injuries? Playing surface?

Ask not for whom the bell tolls...

Great shame but vindicates those (including Swords but not me) who questioned Warnock's ability to cope a prem level.

I've said for a while that things weren't right. NW does seem to have "lost" the dressing room. IF that's true, then there's only one outcome I'm afraid!!
