STEPHANE Sessegnon admits Sunderland need to ask more questions as an attacking force after registering a third successive blank. The Black Cats head to Aston Villa on Saturday without a goal in more than five hours after becoming the first Premier League side since August to fall short of scoring against basement boys Wolves. Sunderland found the net three times at second placed Manchester City just over a fortnight ago, but have since failed to find the net against Spurs, Everton and Wolves. And joint top scorer Sessegnon says Sunderland must improve their potency in the final third when they face a Villa side still lingering on the fringes of the relegation battle. Sessegnon told the Echo: âWeâve got to improve our scoring because you canât win a game without a goal. âIn the last three games, we havenât found the net and itâs been difficult for us because weâve played teams who have been quite defensive. âWe showed at Manchester City that we can take our chances after scoring three times. âThere were moments against Wolves, but not enough. We need to pose more questions than weâre doing at the moment. The chances we had on Saturday were a bit like the match itself - nearly but not quite there. âWe need to improve, but Iâm confident that we get back among the goals at Aston Villa.â Sessegnon concedes fatigue has played a part in Sunderlandâs decline over the last month, with Martin OâNeillâs side winning just one of their last eight games. But the Benin international is confident Sunderland can register the five points needed from the final four games to overhaul last seasonâs tally of 47. âOf course, thereâs a bit of tiredness,â added the 27-year-old. âWeâre approaching the end of the season and the Premier League is very difficult. You donât get any easy matches and of course you get tired. âBut itâs not an excuse. Weâve got to keep being solid and have the desire to do as well as we can for the rest of the season. Thereâs four matches left and we want to finish the season on a high. âWe want to do better than last year and thereâs only four matches that we can do that in. Weâre all desperate to finish in the top 10 and Iâm sure weâll give everything because itâs important to do that. âIt was our objective at the start of the season and we need to go into the summer having finished the year well.â ...................................................................
I hope Sess is right about us finding our shooting boots against the Villains;would be nice to see Bent having to worry about being a Championship player next season.I'm sure MON will fire them up for this one whether they are tired or not-how many of them know what it's like to be tired after a hard weeks graft-not having a pop at the Lads but footballers in general.
