How do you introduce Star Wars to the kids?

  1. Start at episode 1

  2. Start at episode 4

I'm glad that even tho this is a football forum, we can still cover other major issues too.

Like for instance, how to best introduce my boys to Star Wars? When the time comes, should I start with Episode 1 or do it the old fasioned way... Episode 4, 5, 6, then 1, 2, 3 ?

Start at Episode 1, save the best till last. If you watch 4-6 your motivation for 1-3 will be minimal and you might not see it through. If you start at 1 at least you've got 4-6 to go if your desire to finish is wavering part way through.

    4, 5 and 6 and don't mention the aberrations of "1, 2 and 3"

I think 3 had redeemed Lucas in my eyes. Both my sons, one in his 40's the other approaching it, loved Star Wars. There was nothing else except Action Man, and Pannini World Cup Stickers. Star Wars and the figures was the world. So 4-6 were revered. Rightly so.
The hype that surrounded the new trilogy was so enormous, I don't think anything Lucas could have done would have even come close to 4-6. I remember when 2001 came out and it revolutionised sci-fi and space movies when craft looked like they belonged in space and not a toilet roll with a sparkler out the back. But from then on, space movies weren't totally about the special effects but more about the storyline.
1 was an absolute shambles and 2 was even worse but 3 connected the stories together and new characters such as General Grievous became new stars (no pun intended) instead of the detestable Ja Ja Binks or the young Ani.
Now of course, Lucas has promised us another trilogy, 7-9. Personally I think he is wasting his time. PS3 and XBOX have ruined sci-fi and I can't see the magic ever returning.

You must start with Episode IV --> VI then 1 --> III. That's the way I saw them anyway.

IV first - if they don't like it then at least you won't have to sit through the God-awful Episode I again. If they enjoy IV - VI then you can at least give them a warning abouy what is to come!

I was first introduced to Star Wars when Episode I came out. I was 8 or 9, I was a kid so I enjoyed it, but I would probably hate it now. Haven't properly seen Episode II as I choked on food near the beginning and I didn't bother with Episode III. I've definitely seen one of Episode IV, V and VI in full, can't remember which but I've seen parts of the other two. Prefer the old trilogy but if your kids are like I was - easily pleased by movies - then let them watch it it!

Odd how perceptions of movies change from being a kid and when you're older. Enjoyed the original Toy Story as a kid and then watched it again just before Toy Story 3 came out. I appreciated a lot more of the jokes that were subtly put in for adults. Like Mr Potato Head taking his lips off and place them on his arse! I didn't understand that as a kid!

    I don't think it matters
As an adult you'd say go chronological, but they'll love all of them if they are like my kids (5 and 7)
They love episode I because of the pod racing even though I think it's pants

If you start at episode 1 then the episode 5 loses its shock. I heard a great idea of watching 4 and 5, then going back and watching 1-3 then finishing with 6.
That way you get the shock in 5 and immediately go to the back story.
For the record I love them all and have seen them more times then I can count.
