Also hopeful, but not optimistic, but loaned till the summer, then try again.

Would it be that much of a loss if we didn't as Russell Martin is still a great right back and should not be over looked. Yes Naughton is a great player and I for one would be well happy if he came here but I wont be that down if he doen't. Martin is great there and our young Francomb is coming on great to so we do have back up.

Perhaps 4 years ago, now it will straight into the account marked Her Majesty's Revenues and Customs, perhaps this is why HR is reluctant to sell!

Sorry, but when you take his age into account as well I'm afraid Kyle is different class to Russell in my opinion. Harsh after how amazing he's been this year, but I'd have Kyle there at RB all day long

Same, R. Martin is still an amazing utility defender, and I would far rather have him than Barnett if one had to leave ANY DAY!

Any Naughton deal would depend largely on whether he's said he wants to come here. If he has, Spurs would want to sell and we'd want to buy. My guess, he's proven he wants first team football by going on loan & we can almost certainly offer Prem football for next year, he'll want to come.

Naughton has the edge over the Norfolk Cafu purely based on one thing - and that is natural speed. Poor old Russel sort of demonstrated that point on Saturday having to lunge in because he was struggling to keep pace with West Brom's winger. Naughton, because of his speed, probably wouldn't have found himself in that position!

That's not to say I have no respect for Martin because he has proved to be a fantastic acquisition for the club and when called upon usually does a brilliant job but in a straight fight for the right back slot Naughton wins every time for me.

Interesting on the BBC transfer page :

1228: Tottenham Hotspur have recalled right-back Adam Smith from MK Dons after cancelling his season-long stay at the League One side. The 20-year-old arrived at MK Dons in August and went on to make 17 league appearances for Karl Robinson's side.

1243: DONE DEAL Leeds United have signed Tottenham's England under-21 international defender Adam Smith on loan until the end of the season.

    Spanner in the works ?

having watched smith the other night i'd suggest its a good sign for us re: naughton. smith was outstanding for mk dons and i think spurs want to see how he gets on at championship level because he is a terrific prospect. his progress could be the difference between us getting naughton or not <ok>
