This one would have passed me by if I hadn't seen brb's post on the Jake Hessenthaler thread http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/article/nathan-nyafli-retirement-february-4-1340222.aspx I feel so sorry that a promising young player has had to retire at such a young age because of injury. I saw him at Burton in the last game of last season when MA actually gave some of the development squad an outing, and was impressed by his pace and enthusiasm and I was (over-optimistically as it turns out) looking forward to seeing him play some sort of role in this season's campaign. I do hope that he gets proper help and support in coming to terms with his situation and finding himself a new career, as I guess that football has been his only life since leaving education. I may be wrong in that, but would be very pleasantly surprised if it were not the case. He probably retires as Gillingham's most successful striker with a record of a goal for every game he played - regrettably only one of each. All the very best for the future Nathan, wheresoever it takes you.
There was a thread about this last week started by harryheadbut. Very sad for Nathan. I hope he has a successful career in whatever pathway opens up for him. All the best nathan.
Sorry, thought I'd done a proper search but didn't look as far as page 2. brb - please feel free to merge this thread with the earlier one.
