This is not about his performance against West Ham, he's just come back from injury, I would like to hear what you think of him in general. My thoughts: I must admit I'm an optimistic "glass half full" kind of fan, I believe that I tend to support the players that fall out of favour more than the average United fan (over the years these would be your Carricks, Fletchers, Berbatovs etc.) Looking back at some of my favourite recent United players they tend to be the grafters who have had a tough period in their past (form or injury related), rather than the big name dazzling players, so guys like Forlan, Solksjaer, Alan Smith, Fletcher... So basically I'm not someone who jumps on the bandwagon and slates Berbatov for being lazy, Fletcher for being average or any of those kind of things... But I must admit Nani is the ONLY regular first team players in many years that I have serious issues with, who irritates me every time I see him. I know he has some big supporters on this site, and rightly so, he's a very skillful player that brings something very different to the game than our other wingers. But his attitude absolutely stinks. His selfishness, his lack of awareness around him, his inconsistency and poor work rate really rashes my b***s. I can't think of many past (first team) United players more selfish than him, even when he manages to have a good game and scores or assists the celebration always seems to be about him, and not the team. It could not have been easy to live in Ronaldo's shadow your whole career, I sympathise a bit about that, but for me I just have zero confidence in the guy when I see his name on the team sheet, especially against tough opposition. I honestly thought that this latest injury was a smokescreen and he was going to be sold in January, but it seems he really was injured, and SAF is going to continue using him this season... Personally I would prefer him to be replaced by a more consistent, naturally left-footed winger with a good attitude (he doesn't have to be a world class player, but a youngster with good potential would be nice), but obviously it depends what players are available for transfer and at what price. Are the majority of you guys more on my side of the fence, or on the pro-Nani side where you think he's still a valuable addition to the squad and you wouldn't like to see him replaced? EDIT: Added a poll
I must say, before I get blasted for being negative... I believe fans should support their clubs' managers and players no matter what, so I would never advocate the booing of players and managers from the stands (as seen many times at other clubs). My post is mainly to guage your support for Nani, and whether you would prefer to keep him or hypothetical replace him with another winger.
Where is UIR when we need him?!?! He'll give you stats to burn as to why he is great. Prefer to use my eyes myself and I feel his end product is no wheer near good enough, often enough. His decision making is rank, his crossing and passing ability is suspect and his shooting is often ill advised and way off target. He's very frustrating given he clearly has bags of talent and when he is on form is a brilliant player. He has more talent that Valencia and Young but sadly doesn't seem to have the application and end product. Let's face it, in the perdiod he's been injured he hasn't, truthfully, been missed. I suspect if we get Zaha he'll be gone.
I would never boo Nani while he's still a United player, but personally I think he's had too many chances to prove his worth to the club now, he has been far too inconsistent for far too long, and it's not just bad form, it's the fact he always seems to pick the worst option available to him, he's completely the wrong kind of player to have in the same team as Chicharito for example because he refuses to play the early ball which leaves the little man running offside all of the time, he just doesn't come across as good team player (which is probably why Rooney always seems to be moaning at him), everything is about him trying to be the stand out player, trying too hard to be the new Ronaldo. I hope the rumors that we are interested in James Rodriguez are true, I would not be disappointed if he replaced Nani.
Last night was the eye opener...End product is dire...No where near to improving..I'm giving him a couple more games an if he don't improve..Get rid..
Yes Matth? You created a thread generically titled by the player's name (again), and wrote a rambling sentence about how he frustrated you in the last match. I clearly stated that my thread was not about the match performance but about him in general. I have a coherent view that I expressed, and presented a discussion point which other posters have responded to... Which probably explained why my thread has had replies and not yours. I've mentioned it before Matth, title your thread more accurately and have an aim that you are trying to achieve, and you won't get people complaining about multiple threads created... For example, if your thread was titled "Nani: West Ham performance" I bet you'd get quite a few replies, and people would realise why it was different to this thread. You've calmed down a bit on your thread creation lately though, well done, it's been good...
Massively talented, hugely frustrating to watch, utterly incapable of playing as a team man. Get rid.
Which is surprising considering he's been the top in assists the past couple of seasons. On paper he's a great team player! Just wait UIR will crawl out of whatever cave he's been hiding in, he'll show you!
Like SAF said utd need a Nani because even if it is not Nani , They have to buy someone who is technically gifted enough to cause a problem against the great continental teams because believe it or not utd will never win the champions league with the likes of Valencia and Young supplying the ammunition. Now if Nani can get his act together before the end of the season, he will get his new contract but if he does not then he will be sold but the problem is finding an adequate replacement because it is not James Rodriguez because whilst he is left footed, he is not an out and out winger and is too lightweight and if you think Kagawa is having problems now because he is easily muscled off the ball, wait till Rodriguez comes to the PL and plus he goes to ground a lot. In fact he reminds me of Gaitan from last season who was continuosly linked with utd, but is no longer the flavour of the month as his play has regressed this season and he is no longer first choice at benfica. If it were up to a lot of utd fans, he would have been bought last season for over £25 million, What a waste that would have been and as we know James is valued at £35 by Porto so thats another risk. Sometimes its best to stick with what you have untill something definitely better comes along and unfortunately utd lost out on Lucas. But do not be to hasty in getting rid of Nani because there are not many like for like replacements out there, certainly not Zaha and whilst whilst the likes of Young and Valencia are more hardworking players than Technically gifted players, and continuosly play in the big games, Utd will always come up short against the Barcas of this world. I remember a time when Utd fans wanted Morten Gamst Pedersen to replace Ronaldo, and to have Alan Smith replace Keano in Midfield and also for SAF to buy the likes of Kevin Nolan. All I have to say is that whilst SAF blundered in the Alan Smith decision, I am thankful that he is the coach and not one of the clueless fans
I never wanted Gaitan, I had seen him play and he was a pretty good playmaker but never thought he was the right kind of player for United at that time, and while James Rodriguez may be a little lightweight (no more than Young or even Nani to be honest), he is a very talented young winger/inside forward, and as Nani is not an out and out winger neither I don't really see how he would be a bad replacement, especially at only 21, and the £35 million thing is his release clause (its actually £38 million I do believe), if the player was to ask to be allowed to leave and the club agreed there is every chance the fee would be less than that.
