There have been many pub debates and Internet discussions over the players in our first team. Most have questioned as to who should be our No. 1 goalkeeper, while others have discussed the merits of Hernandez or Welbeck partnering Rooney in attack. I want to take a look at the battle between arguably two of the best players in the United squad who coincidentally are in competition for the same position.

Up until this season, I had considered Nani to be one of the most underrated players in the United squad. He had a big task of stepping up to the plate in the wake of Ronaldo's record-breaking £80 million switch to Real Madrid. As a result of that, Nani has arguably become the best winger in the PL.

No-one can deny that Nani has produced some magical moments with those feet of his, highlights including his stunning first goal for us, his goal against Middlesbrough in 2009 and of course the winning goal in the 2011 Community Shield.

It's very hard to believe that Fergie places Nani and the headless chicken [Young] into one squad - if Nani played in a foreign league, he would have been looked upon. But, he's playing in Manchester, and has to accept the fact he's playing alongside the likes of Young, De Gea and Jones

Nani is a player who can consistently perform and create lots of chances in a game, and a player who can produce moments of magic and change a game in the blink of an eye. He shouldn't be compared to Valencia nor the headless chicken [Young]. Nani on paper is better than the headless chicken and the inconsistent Valencia combined.

At times, I question myself on why Nani's even playing for United. If he decided to pursue his career elsewhere, I'm pretty sure he would have received much more appraisal than he has ever received at United.

Another special thread from Utd's #1 plastic.

Nani can do all these things but frequently has long spells where he doesn't - like right now where he seems to be in a slump.

Valencia is an extremely consistent performer - his peak is nowhere near Nani at the top of his game but Nani's slumps are much longer and lower than Valencia's consistent good play.

I can say this with a great deal of honesty.

Nani is far too inconsistent to be classed as a good player, let alone be too good for United. I'd love it if they sold him and replaced him with a bit of consistency.

**** all the fancy bollocks and ballooning the ball miles over the bar, give me someone who can tear down the wings with chalk on his boots and put in some useful crosses week in week out.

He takes the worst free kicks. Absolutely shocking, hardly ever hits the target.

Has to be said, as wind ups go, this is absolutely ****. Quite a lot of thought seems to have gone into it and yet it's unbelievably lame.

That's nothing - sometimes Jizmo literally writes a 2000 word essay. Then the thread gets closed <laugh>

Who would even consider closing one of Jizmo's superior footballing threads? <whistle>
