NANI last night ended all speculation about his future by insisting: “Manchester United is my home.”

Nani, 25, announced his engagement to model girlfriend Daniela Martins earlier this week and has no thoughts of leaving the Cheshire mansion they share for a lucrative move abroad.

He said: “I left Portugal for a great personal challenge and to improve as a player.

“There have been times when it’s not been easy but they treat me well here and, step by step, I am fulfilling my dreams.

    “Manchester United is my home.”

Nani will have two years left on his existing £80,000-a-week deal in the summer but talks are already under way about improving that and tying him to the club until at least June 2016.

Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus have both expressed an interest in the player, who has hit 13 goals this season.

But Nani added: “The manager has immense faith in me and that’s all that matters.

“My agent is negotiating with the club on a new deal and things are going very well.

“I hope at the end of the season an agreement will be reached.”

You would expect it to, as Nani insists Fergie is the best manager on the planet.

But the player also admits he has felt the full force of the Fergie hairdryer treatment.

Nani added: “He is a great coach. For me, the best in the world.

“But I have trembled in his presence when he hasn’t been happy.

“I remember some games when we had won by two or three goals and he still wasn’t happy.

“It seemed like we had lost. He’s not someone you want to argue with.”

Nani arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in July 2007 and has already played 193 games for the club.

But his importance has blossomed in the wake of fellow Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Real Madrid in June 2009.

And although Nani admits he talks constantly with his international team-mate, he loathes the comparisons between them.

Nani said: “I am always in contact with Cristiano.

“He has been a great help to me since I came to the club, along with the manager and Carlos Queiroz.

“But I don’t like the comparisons with Cristiano as a player.

“We are different and have attributes to our game that aren’t similar.

“But, unfortunately, the public frequently compare us.

“What I can tell you, though, is Cristiano is still a huge United fan and is desperate to see us retain the title.”

Who wins the title is likely to be decided in tomorrow’s crunch clash with bitter rivals City at the Etihad Stadium.

It will be broadcast to a worldwide TV audience of 650million — the biggest in Premier League history — and Fergie has billed it as “the derby game of all derby games”.

But Nani, who should shake off a minor ankle injury to start, feels United can handle the pressure and believes striker Wayne Rooney will prove the difference on the night.

Rooney has bagged 36 goals this season — 180 in total for United — and is chasing Bobby Charlton’s all-time record of 249.

Nani said: “Rooney is in tremendous goalscoring form.

“He is unique, a world-class striker and could be the decisive difference on the night.

“We’re not going to City in fear or living with pressure. Manchester United players are equipped to handle it.

“It has been a season of many ups and downs but our destiny still remains in our own hands.

“However, we won’t be going looking for a draw — even though we find ourselves three points better off than City.

“It’s not our mentality, it doesn’t come into our thinking.”

Nani also feels it is important to banish thoughts of the 6-1 home hammering by City earlier in the season.

He added: “That defeat was extremely painful and people were quick to write us off afterwards.

“But we have shown immense resilience, proved people wrong and head to City leading the Premier League.

“There is no room for complacency but no time to dwell on what happened earlier this season.”

This is excellent news, i'm pleased that contract negotiations are going well.

Good news. At least he's not got the usual 'dream' to play for Real Madrid.

I personally don't see Nani ever going to Madrid. He always tries to distance himself from Ronaldo comparisons, and following in CR7s footsteps to Madrid would seem like something he would refuse to do just on a personal level. Plus of if the way he talks about his feelings for Man Utd he shouldn't have a reason to leave anyways.

Really. He'll ask for crazy money, the club will refuse and his agent will get him a nice juicy deal at one of the big Italian clubs.

I don;t think he'll do that, he won't ask for that, after Rooney and Vidic, he's our most important player.

I prefer Valencia. I think we miss him more when he's out than we do Nani when he's missing.

He'll stay and rightly so. A reasonable pay rise should suffice

Nani is THE most skillfull and important player at UTD

valencia is brilliant in the system we have but is a one trick pony

    rooney can be easily replaced

vidic HAS been replaced adequately this season

great players, dont get me wrong but in terms of creativity and that bit of magic no one beats nani currently

Well said..He's our "flair" player. The one that has that "wow" factor an when he gets the ball something brilliant or crap happens. If he can up the brilliant to crap ratio, he could go down as a very important player for us.

If he can add consistency to his game, then he could be our most important player.

Don't be daft. We're just as good with Valencia and Young in the team, so he can't be that crucial.

Skill wise he is touted as the best by UTD players, importance wise is more difficult to prove I will grant you but you only have to look at our performances without him to see what we miss, also see portugal with and without nani

Maybe a couple of seasons ago. But he plays with much more variety and freedom these days.
I disagree, he pretty much hugs teh left and uses his pace and crosses into the box first chance he gets regardless of anybody being there

So why does our form always suffer when he's not there?
This is a myth IMO, see berba and his golden boot. Also think if midfield was sorted then the rooney role becomes redundant somewhat and there are better strikers out there

    Fair enough.

If he can add consistency to his game, then he could be our most important player.

IMO, nanis consistency is less about nani and more about the teams dynamics. Nani for portugal is very consistent but at UTD is the first to be shifted to 'fit' into the team and that IMO makes him more important.
Also I believe that he is one of a few players who gets the stick from fans when we perform badly, unfairly I may add. Nani at another club would be given the freedom and the team built around him and would come into his own
Also the whole he takes too much time argument is being used against young when he plays instead. JHave people thought thta maybe its because of the team?
Young didnt take as much time to cross at Villa but does at UTD. The issue is simple if you watch the game. Valencia crosses regardless, whereas Nani and Young (being more aware imo) look up to see if anyone is actually in the box

Now you're just making excuses for him. Ronaldo was asked to play on the right or left wing but was still our best attacking performer for 3 seasons. We didn't build the team around him to start with, but he became so good we started to. If Nani becomes that good, he will also become the main man.

I would personally say Berbatov is more skilful. As for importance, that's a matter of opinion. But I think more fans, pros, writers and managers would agree with mine.
not according to those around him. When directly asked who is the most skillfull (on MUTV) nani is the first name. So those closest to him agree with mine

The left? Do you even watch us play?
<laugh> oops meant the line <doh> but you hopefully got the point. He does just hug the line on the RIGHT and cross

Yet when Rooney was our top scorer in 09/10, 06/07 and 05/06 I bet you weren't lauding his importance.
[B]That wasnt the point. I have consistently said I am talking of the rooney now, although his highest goal scoring season didnt win him the golden boot

Now you're just making excuses for him. Ronaldo was asked to play on the right or left wing but was still our best attacking performer for 3 seasons. We didn't build the team around him to start with, but he became so good we started to. If Nani becomes that good, he will also become the main man.

how exactly are they excuses? Nani imo should be the main man, but there are certain factors that dont allow for that. Including the midfield and rooney
His position in the team reminds me of Veron. Veron was a better player by a mile than beckham but the way we played suited becks more. Ronaldo was not the main man for reasons like the team being built around RVN or RVN being a major factor than anything else
Hence my oint about nani being better in another team
You only have to look at the berbatov situation to see what happens to a skillful player who doesnt suit team dynamics. In terms of skill berba is many time sthe playe rooney has become, but in terms of what suits UTD, rooney is the reason berba will probably leave at teh end of teh season
