http://frenchfootballweekly.com/2015/07/20/nampalys-mendy-set-for-ranieri-reunion-at-leicester-city/ ... now at the stage when deserving of own thread ... he 'sounds' ideal ...
Only negative I can see about this guy is that he is 5'6 otherwise everything I have read is really good - represented France at every level up to U21 and has a reputation fro being an intelligent and tenacious player.
Sounds like he'd be a good signing, hope this one goes through as our other midfield options are looking a little reluctant!
10 years ago and I might have been concerned - but with the game moving more away from physique to technique I'm far more relaxed .. Messi, Silva. Cazorla. Modric, Hazard, Mata, ... there is a short**** in most top sides these days ... look how that lttle Croat ran the game for Stoke against us at our place ...
Anybody else remember Willie Carlin playing for us. He was about 3 foot nothing, yet he ran the midfield countless times. Remember a game against Norwich at Filbert Street when their massive centre half ran 30 yards to kick him up in the air in the closing seconds. Have to agree with my wife on this one - size isnt everything!
Claude Makelele was 5'7, and was arguably one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation (at least!)
... I remember him ... unfortunate christian name in that context ... didn't The Sweet also do a song about him?
Crikey - brings back memories. Saw the Sweet in Gothenberg. Walked into the arena with my mates and asked this guy if it was nominated seating. He replied in a Brummie accent 'Dont ask me mate I'm a roadie'.
... they were great ... loved 'Blockbuster' ... what a guitar riff ... and how uncanny that Bowie would have a record out with the same riff at around the same time (Gene Genie) ...
I guess his height isn't "as" important as a midfielder, hes reached the top level in France so maybe he has other qualities that are outstanding.
