So with the iconic St. James Park renamed now to "Sports Direct Arena", I want to know our own thoughts on what we would think if Anfield was renamed " (Sponsor) & (sponsor) Arena/Field/Stadium, etc". Would you be opposed to naming rights or would you take it on, but it would always be "Anfield"? Just wanting your thoughts and to also get some football related topic in with the downtime of international footy.
Unfortunately the future of football revolves around naming rights. Football like many things nowadays is a business first and foremost. I wouldn't be against naming rights against anfield as long as it was done for the right reason. What point is there in the re-branding of st James park? The clubs owner owns the naming company so there is no short term gain, only a long term gamble that the advertising makes sports direct successful. It would be the same as if we were to name our ground the fsg arena or the nesn stadium... There's no point. You take a naming partner to give you a short term cash injection followed by smaller payments like arsenal and man city have done. As for actual companys.... Warrior would be a good ground naming partner
the deal needs to be simply huge for one. like the supposed above board deal city just pulled out of the hat. mr henry promised us anfield would not be renamed. thats a promise. if stanley park is named cock ring arena and we get 500million for it i wouldn't care.... its that simple. 300mil required for the stadium so the absolute minimum for 10 years naming is 150-200 mil IMO
I know I'm a dinosaur, but Anfield should always be Anfield to my mind. The obsession with money is destroying the essence of footie imo.
I would replace is destroying with has destroyed. This naming right's thing is a way around them financial fair ply rule's and we will see a lot more team's do it in the next couple of year's.
As far as Liverpool is concerned then it is highly likely that our stadiun naming rights will be sold. However, the way that it is handled is the important thing. If FSG finally go for a refurbishment of Anfield then it should be mandatory that an re-naming include the name Anfield - hence the XYZ Anfield Stadium. If we go for a a new stadium then it will not be Anfield and therefore naming rights are totally open.
Naming rights unfortuantley is a modern day must. But we could do it a bit like city the officail name is the Etihad stadium buit the fans also call it Eastlands or the City of Manchester stadium. So if Coca Cola came in and now its the Coca Cola stadium, the fans could still call it anfield anyway Geordie fans will still call ther stadium St James's
This is my thinking on it, yes it would suck to have the official name not Anfield, but it will always be Anfield and called that.
True mate,It'll always be Anfield to us. If or when the naming rights are up for bids i'd expect FSG to tout it to the big American conglomerates rather than just the usual suspects.
Lord, not GM!!! They are still trying to get bailed out! Apple would be good in terms of money, and just being all around the world.
