Naming rights for stadium sold!

A similar move at Premier League giants Newcastle United has caused outrage â but plans by Frome Town to sell naming rights to one of its stands are creating a buzz.

The Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division side is running a draw for local businesses to win the right to name its proposed new 250-seat stand.

The Somerset club is selling raffle tickets for Â£50 each. Toon Army fans are outraged by owner Mike Ashleyâs plan to rebrand St Jamesâ Park.

Frome club secretary Ian Pearce said: âThe winning businesses would have their name across the front of the stand for everybody to see.

âThere will also be other prizes in the draw as well and there is no maximum number of entries per person.â

The latest fundraising initiative is part of Frome FCâs bid to raise enough money to buy a new stand to satisfy league requirements.

If they canât find the estimated Â£14,000 still needed by the end of March, the club will face relegation.

To help the cause several individuals have begun raising money.

Two Frome Town supporters, Steve Jupp and Teresa Graham, raised more than Â£1,000 after walking from Shepton Mallet to Frome Town arriving in time to watch the game against Hemel Hempstead.

The pair were met by the players, committee and supporters when they reached the ground and gave them a warm welcome.

Meanwhile local businessman Kevin Corcoran is raising money for the club by growing a moustache.

On December 1, he will then shave one side of his head bald and half of the moustache on the opposite side and stay like that until December 16.

The shaving will take place at the football club. Mr Corcoran will also be raising money for cancer research.

He said: âI want to try and raise some money for these two good causes but with a bit of humour at the same time.

âThe club do a lot for Frome and have really helped put us on the map in terms of football so businesses and individuals in the town need to rally around and support their cause.â
