http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95840 Find this a bit surprising, it does seem to question Virgin's long-term interest in the team. Perhaps they just want to get on the name changing band wagon.....
I may be wrong, but I thought Richard Branson recently announced Virgin wanted to step back a bit, possibly even after this season. Marussia are title sponsor, and a car manufacturer, so it seems fair enough to want the change. Shame about the reduction in double-entendre it'll bring though. "Alonso nearly rear-ending the Marussia" doesn't have quite the same appeal!
they went from sponsoring the wdc to being one of the 2 worst teams in F1, for a vastly increased financial commitment. Branson has always been a bit 'cheap', that's part of his appeal.
Don't see anything wrong with this... Especially considering we had Midland change names mid-season before...
This. That was about the only thing they brought to the table. It's going to be so confusing for the casuals next year. Renault will be Lotus, Lotus will be Caterham, Virgin will be Marussia.
Maybe Virgin is disappointed with the amount of innuendo, they were probably expecting 20-30% more innuendo this season.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95874 So Team Lotus is Caterham, Renault is Lotus and Virgin is Marussia, subject to official ratification. I hope this whole ridiculous naming saga is over now. It all seemed rather pointless to me, considering no-one is now using the Team Lotus name anyway- waste of time?
Ha! Yes, it almost always involves the addition "…racing car". The tension is tangible - err, hang on a sec'; perhaps I'm thinking of HRT… But seriously, I'm very pleased about Caterham. That battle of wills did nothing for the Lotus name in my opinion, and they are right to let it rest in peace, at last.
funny how the team later got named after the midlands and now the bigger country of India (and to add on to that, The vast sahara desert has got in on the action)
Good news at last then. All they need to do now is sort out the ridiculously named HRT (seriously, how simple would it be to change it to Hispania GP).
I looked them up, for the same reason! They make a horrific SUV and a couple of sports cars in very limited numbers.
