Derek McInnes admits he has a "nagging feeling" his City side should have taken more than a single point from Vicarage Road despite coming from behind twice to draw 2-2. After a low key first half, the contest exploded into life with four second half goals. James Wilson inadvertently gave the hosts the lead with an own goal on 58 minutes, but Marvin Elliott's well-placed header soon levelled matters. City duly piled on the pressure in search of a winner, but Matej Vydra made it 2-1 against the run of play before Steven Davies' first goal for the Robins secured a deserved point eight minutes from time. "But that's four points out of six from two away games and we've got to be pleased with that," McInnes told Bristol City Player. "But I've just got this nagging feeling it could have been more today. "I felt that we should have shown more confidence and belief on the ball and asked more questions of them in the first half. "Second half we were far brighter in possession and carved them open at will at times, but it's a case of missed opportunities today. "We've hit the post and should have done better at the end with Killer after he did well to manufacture the opening, but I think if we had been a bit more clinical we pick up three points today. "We're just disappointed with the second goal we lose, because in the last 25 minutes on chances created we should have been out of sight. "I have to credit the players because it was a real spirited performance with lots of quality at times. "We know in the Championship it's a thin line between winning and losing, and it was a game that could have gone either way but we stuck to our task." Agree with McInnes we could of came away with 3 points today, but i think a point was deserved, Watford were the more dominant of the teams from the sounds of it and they could of easily hit more in themselves. A city fan said on the radio, had watford had out front line they would of scored double figures, which probably would of been the case, but again to me this results still tells us we're in dire need of that commanding centre half, and one of the first things i would do is find a new captain, i like fontaine and rate him highly but he isn't a captain, Maybe Marv but when i think of it the team doesn't have a real leader, maybe stead? but he isn't in the team consistently, Skuse had it a few seasons back but was probably his worse season in a city shirt, saying that he has matured now and turned into our best midfielder, So for that reason when he's back I'd give him the captaincy . First things first though, We need a new defender, Preferably before the Leeds game, As im sure they along with Blackburn will be the toughest team attack wise we will play this season. All in all a great result and 4 points from 2 away games which we all would off took, and now Davies has scored surely he must get his first start against Leeds, partnered with Sammy Baldock of course
Not Bristol city related but have you seen the Birmingham vs Barnsley game who would of said that before kick off
Well done boys, especially after losing Greg and Skuuuuuuuuuuuse Fine result and great spirit. This is what has been missing for years. NEVER SURRENDER !!!!!!!
Would not like to see Skuse as captain, think he is the best midfielder we have but a little to quiet and will not order players around, bit like Fontaine. Believe it or not I would pick Heaton shouts at them all the time and shows leadership qualities but never like seeing goalies captain but I suppose Dino Zoff won the world cup as one. But agree we do need this elusive defender to come in soon.
I was going to say Heaton rod, but also like you im not to keen on a goalie as captain. I did say in the post we don't have a commanding player, only put skuse forward as he's a bristol boy
I like it when we are not happy about not taking 3 points away from home against decent opposition... As the confidence grows, I say we go Brian Clough's philosophy and play the same home and away, i.e. to win. If we are good enough (and confidence is a BIG part of this), let them worry about us. One thing though, please McDell, get that commanding and preferably footballing centre half in to play alongside James Wilson. We have plenty of goals in us but we need to be just that little bit tighter at the back...
Does anyone agree with me that as a result of recent defensive errors, that DMc should be looking for a dominant, brick wall, leader of the defence for left sided centre back to play alongside James Wilson. Rather than a right sided one to partner accident prone Fontaine. Yes I know JW stuck one in his own net but yet again Fonts did not get anywhere near the Watford scorer of their second goal. So does this bring McManus back into the frame? He's only been on the bench twice for Boro so obviously not Mowbray's favourite defender!
Skuse should be captain as u want someone to lead by example and being a local boy does add to it and when he is fit he is one of the first people on the team sheet. Where at times i think fonts has stayed in the team on that basis after having a few poor games when u would question whether he should be dropped. Moving to the positives very please with the number of goals we have been scoring this season, negative we cant keep clean sheets, wilsons og which the watford player would have put in and for the second think fonts got turned too easierly and should have done better but it was a good finish. I guess the difference is we can let in two goals now and still score enough goals to come away with points. I still question whether come the end of the season we will have a 20+ goal player but think we will have 4 or 5 players who score over 10 goals as we have a good attacking team now. Where many players are pitching in with goals 3 points off the playoffs and still got a positive goal difference COYR
Being a local boy is a totally pointless statement, as is his merits as a player. Yes we need a constant presence in the side, but also a leader of men. Where is our Dave Mackay ?
We appear to have finally found the ability to come back from adversity and compete at a higher level than previous seasons. Watching some of the games on BCFC player it seems obvious that we still need that dominant player, either at the back or in midfield, to bring better discipline to the squad. It was plainly obvious that some of our defending was way off the mark and our goalkeeper put under unecessary pressure which will always lead to questions being raised. All in all a record of 4 points from 2 away games merits some optimism and the Leeds game will show us all what we are capable of achieving.
