Last Updated: July 16, 2012 3:09pm Sunderland have emerged as front-runners in the chase for Blackburn midfielder Steven N'Zonzi, Sky Sports understands. The 23-year-old looks set to quit Ewood Park this summer after being left out of Rovers' pre-season camp in Austria. N'Zonzi was targeted by a host of clubs in January, but Rovers stood firm as they looked to battle against relegation. Steve Kean's side were unsuccessful in their attempts to beat the drop and N'Zonzi has made it clear he does not wish to play in the Championship. The Frenchman is now being tracked by a host of Premier League clubs with Tottenham, Aston Villa, Stoke City and West Ham all keen. But it is now understood that Sunderland are in pole position to capture N'Zonzi, although no club has yet agreed a fee with Rovers. .
I'd be pleased with this, he'd give us a bit more power and physical presence in the middle, and it's on Sky which is promising. Fingers crossed.
hopefully, we have a pretty ordinary bunch, would be over the moon if 3 get moved on and we bring in 2 that will offer abit of pace and quality to the squad
N'Zonzi is a bit different to what we have, and potentially a very good player. He was pretty poor last season, but then how do you motivate yourself to perform for a fantasist? Wouldn't wanna be paying more than £6million, neither for nor against.
I think it could Vince. I'd assume if MON has identified his targets, the money people at the club could push through a deal, although I could see MON being the type to wanna meet a lad and size him up first. Could happen.
MoN has commented that negotiations will still continue whilst being away in Korea. So I'm sure a deal can be done then perhaps finalised on return.
