Yesterday Tony Fernandes asked for fans to give him some names of players we would like to see. Don't know if anyone on her responded to that call but here are mine. These are younger players who are hungry and also would be very realistic signings Nicky Maynard (IMO the next Defoe) James Tomkins (IMO the next Tony Adams) Johnny Howson (IMO the next Joey Barton) Olivier Giroud (IMO the next Vierri) Nedum Onuoha (Next......? he is just very good) I know people would rather see already proven names, but we have to be realistic as we are not a very big club worldwide for now. Also we have already an pretty old squad right now which comes with lots of injuries so new young blood is needed.
agree about maynard, although i'm greedy and would like to see defoe sign too. i don't know much about the rest of them.
It's in today's Star that we are putting in a £3 million bid for Tomkins, I still don't see the Hammers letting him go while they are in the top two... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/221300/Neil-Warnock-plans-West-Ham-raid/
If Neil is given the funds that is being rumoured, then we should get some proven quality players in.I agree that way forward is to be getting some new up and coming good young players. But only when we have established ourselves as a Premiership team. we need proven quality to keep us in the Prem..so Defoe is top of my wish list.
Understand your concerns Deano about securing Pl status and tbh Defoe is an excellent finisher. Ive seen pretty much a fair lot of games in the PL this season and every match of QPR due to my sports channel in the Netherlands. After some analyzing i reckon our squad is strong enough to survive even without buying very big names. Think we will do fine and will end up between 17th and 12th. Just don't want to end up in two years time from now with a great deal of players 30 years or older in the squad. Times have changed in football players only aged 18 look so mature and intelligent in their play these days, it will be just a matter of time and professional players have to quit their career when they are 30 years old because the can't cope with the upcoming youngsters. We don't have to feel sorry for them anyway cause they are making the same money in one week i have to work for around 6 years.
If the quotes in the papers are right today, NW is having to restrain Fernandes from spending money. Talk about a turnaround from Goontime. Love the TF's enthusiasm. A canny Northern manager is just what he needs to keep his feet on the ground. As for NW, I'm sure he models himself on Harry Rednapp. What better? Except I hope Neil organises his tax affairs a little better.
