I had said previously that I thought our next appointment would show what kind of ambition Short had to take this club forward. Well he's made the appointment I and the majority of Sunderland fans were hoping for. When Short came to the club we had Roy Keane as manager and it didn't take him long to get onto Keane's case. He basically had the run of the place and no one dared to stand up to him but Short was quick to and Keane was quick to leave. I think Short has been proven right to have questions Keanes methods. So Shorts first mistake (maybe he was suprised by Keanes exit) was to have no replacement and Ricky Came in. Was never supposed to be the manager but initially did so well that he got the job and it nearly ended in disaster. The next appointment was Steve Bruce, he was more thrifty in the transfer market and probably the next step up from Keane and at the time I saw him as that. I'd still place him above Keane. However Bruce went off the rails and did bad business this summer and this is where I have had to question Short's ambition with the loss of Bent and Gyan. Now I know both players are greedy BUT especially with Bent surely he should have been offered an improved deal (We don't know what exactly happens so blame is hard to dish out) however replacements were promised but have yet to be brought in. This time no mistakes were made as regards caretaker managers, Short has acted quickly to get his and who most Sunderland fans want So onto O'Neil and he is ambitious. So I can only assume promises have been made of a cash injection. O'Neil has turned us down in the past so this time Short must have impressed him, he is getting a hefty salary and with the backroom staff he brings with him and the removal of Bruce's this is a huge payout before any players are bought. I cannot complain with Short at all as he has made the appointment. So overall at the moment I am happy with Short and what he is doing. However after watching todays game I only hope we haven't left it too late for O'Neil. This season is as we have been fearing for weeks now (but what would we know we are only impatient football fans) a relegation scrap. If O'Neil can make it through this season then we have a chance of those top half finishes but as good as O'Neil is he is going to have to work some magic to keep us up this season.
