Hello, slightly renamed (because I could not keep my earlier monicker) but I am back and thrilled by our start to the new season, it is panning out as I had hoped and we are not goal shy, which is very much what NA promised. The opening fixture was obviously disappointing but thereafter we have now run up three successive away wins which is stunning (well it is for us). That said, having endured listening to the Brentford game on Tuesday night the scoreline did flatter us a bit, but we took our chances and that is all you can do in such circumstances. JR was also immense in goal producing probably his best performance for a very long time. I am generally a realist in life (possibly more pessimistic regarding the Canaries) but I would from here expect us to certainly finish in the top 6 without too much trouble and feel that we are 50/50 for automatic promotion. When you look at our first 7 fixtures we have played the vast majority against teams in the top half and so can reasonably expect a decent run in the following half a dozen fixtures by which time the league positions will settle down and a sense of stability will come to the table. Will the Charlton bubble burst for example and surely Fulham will improve - won't they? And to complete the relegated teams, Cardiff look in disarray which is largely again down to foreign owners and their crazy unrealistic aspirations and demands, something that I have commented on many times previously! Our squad is very strong on paper and all credit to NA and GH for getting the group together and the team itself off to a solid start, long may it all continue. I feel like this will be a wonderful season to be a Canary.
Welcome back Thurnby! IMO, away games will always be difficult, but City has now won 3 aways on the trot. Adams said that he was aiming at six points from the last 2 and he got them by not backing off and playing for a draw. With Odjidja coming into the team and Hooper and Howson almost back from injury, his attacking options have increased, but as he says, it isn't just about the goalscoring: "You look at Cameronâs impact and he is showing why I signed him. I go back to the philosophies and strategies we had with players. You donât just sign a player to score you goals, you want them to do that and offer other things that fit in with the team. You talk about tempo and pressing and we need more than just a goalscorer so with him and Lewis youâve seen the goals are in the locker but they also have the high work rate and desire. It could come down to goals scored and we have targets for that but one of the pleasing aspect is our goals against column. We look okay at both ends of the pitch but we realise it's the attacking end that sends the fans home happy.â
Welcome to ´Newbie´, a Leicestershire fellow And very true what you say, THURNBY YELLOW, Everything´s rosy as rosy can be Hard to see how we can Ãmprove greatly, Though there are good players yet to return A starting place might be quite hard to earn, All of which can only be a good sign As we all hope to continue our climb.
Hello RBF, now I have had a dedicated ode from your good self I regard myself as officially back in the fold! Many thanks
Not really, it's G'd'evening at the moment Great so far isn't it. Really pleased with the results obviously, but Neeyul's showing he's got a decent grip of things too. Good rebound from the Wolves game and he's shown that he can make changes during a game to influence results. Seems like a really good atmosphere again around the club!! Looking forward to seeing more of Odjidja and can't wait to see how Hooper is going to get shoe-horned into this team with our current forwards delivering. Feels good eh?
You are not kidding, it all feels so much different and the spirit and general vibe within the squad looks to be brimming, a far cry from the last campaign. Long may it continue. And yes sorry, G'd'evening Hairy.
There's also Howson coming back (two assists in the U21 game today as he and Hooper both played 60 minutes), and as if that wasn't enough, Miquel and McGrandles also played all 90 minutes and looked sharp! Good times all round!
Be interesting to see the side against the Shrews. I'd think something along the lines of: Rudd Whittaker Miquel Cuellar Garrido Jacob / E Bennett Howson Vadis Josh McGrandles Hooper Can't see Shrewsbury being too much trouble for that lineup.
Adams on his target for the season: “That is the target. We have to set the bar that high,” said Adams. “If we look to get a top-six place and we just miss out on that, then it’s not a good season. If we aim for the title and you just miss out you still end up getting promoted. It would be disrespectful to the players I have here to tell them to aim for a top 10 and see how we get on. I’m obviously delighted (with the start). We set ourselves goals and we are slightly above where we want to be if you base it on two points per game. Full credit, they had to deliver – and they have. It has not been unexpected for me because I know the quality of the players we have and how hard they work in training and in matches. Every day we insist on really high intensity training. That is the key for me. Obviously we don’t want them smashing into each other, but we insist they are at it and it has become the norm here.” Says it all really!
