This is the first time I've done ratings for a game, so feel free to disagree. Rating marks are from say (1) thats for a player turning up,to (5) an average performance neither outstanding nor bad ,to (10) out of this world and should be playing for his national country( can't see anyone getting this). Nelson..5...... I didn't think he was quite as collected and calm as he normally is, and his kicking wasn't great Fish......6..... Not quite back to his best but did OK. Wish he could shoot better though Martin...7..... Good performance from Joe. . Didn't do anything much wrong Barrett 7....Not quite as commanding as usual but never looked like getting beaten except for pace. Legge....8....Man of the Match performance for me, and capped it with a good goal, when he probably shouldn't have been in the centre forwards position Gregory..7...This young man is growing in confidence every time I've seen him play. He will be an unsung hero,a bit like David Wright was. Does the simple things well, and doesn't try to be flash. I think he will make his position in front of the back 4 his own, if the crowd don't get on his back Robinson..7.. Good steady all round display Lee....6...As usual, got himself booked early doors,so that restricted his game until he was rightly subbed Whelpdale...6...Quite an inconsistent game from Whelps. Gave the ball away needlessly a few times but then made the cross from which Legge scored and provided the cross from which Kedwell could have scored. Burton...4...Probably the poorest I've seen Deon. Maybe 2 games in 4 days is too much Kedwell...7...I actually thought this was one of Keds better displays. His first touch is poor and he could/maybe should have scored at the end,but he put himself about a lot, and was a handful for the Aldershot defenders and never gave up Subs Dack...7...played very well, got stuck in and made a few chances for the forwards German..5... Very quick and very ungainly. He's a year or two from being a lower league first choice forward. Reminds me of Oli Ref...4...A below average L2 ref,and thats saying something.Didn't seem to know when to let the game flow and then seemed to change his mind when he did. Lino (our side, can't comment on the other one as he was too far away) 3...Very poor and made some appalling decisions. He was consistent though ,he was equally bad for both sides Conclusion..We can do with a decent striker. Maybe thats what MA has gone to Dubai to talk to Scally about.
I am never very good with the scoring/rating thing, hence why I generally do not participate in them, however, as you have listed the players vinney I will break them down into three categories for my contribution to your thread: Caught my attention for the right reasons: Legge Martin Fish Dack Caught my attention for the wrong reasons: Burton Sitting on the fence: All others
Very good brb. At Aldershot I had such a good view from where I was seated I thought I would for once try to view the game dispassionately and watch our players individually and how they performed. Normally, especially at home I get caught up in the atmosphere and the banter with those around me so I get a different perspective than yesterday
I went yesterday with a Aldershot fan/mate. I thought he summed it up well. Goalkeeper/Defence- Solid Midfield- workmanlike but not creative, how do you score goals. Strikers- how do you ever score a goal.
I think it seems like Gregory is getting better and better, I did think he would get better but was worried after the Wycombe game that he may not but I think it is all about getting a run of games and building up confidence and he should continue to improve.
