Hi guys, my dear old man is approaching his 60th birthday and i need real help with his present, i have ideas but need help and suggestions. 5 years ago he had 3 heart attacks and was told he wouldnt make it 5 years - he doesnt go out much now but he is still strong and talks my ear off every time i talk to him. i had a thought of maybe getting him a personalised signed autograph from one of his favourite players and having it framed perhaps - favourites were paine, channon, you know all the usuals from a few decades ago. so does anyone think this is a good idea/have any other ideas and does anyone know how i might be able to do the autograph thingy? cheers, Saintbirdseye
If you emailed the club, I think they can do signed autograph books/balls from the whole squad on request and I'm sure they would comply if you explained your fathers story.
Terry Paine is in south Africa, but write to Mick Channon at his stables with a photo and a nice letter and I bet he obliges. Find a photo of him doing the windmill.
Buy him a Kindle........that way he can download all the saints books very cheaply (probably for a pound a book) including the LeTiss one. If his sight is not good or he has difficulty in holding things there is a version that downloads vocals so he can listen to the books being read. Cost £111 + any books you down load @ John Lewis or on line at Amazon same price. I wish you both good luck
this was exactly the photo i would go for! presume i must be able to find his stables address somewhere - il have a look around! kindle is a good idea and he does use the internet a bit but not sure how much reading he does! prefers his telly does my old man. cheers for the help guys, im gonna get cracking and will let u know how i get on, much appreciated and so nice to have this good atmosphere on this forum!
Always a few autographed photos on ebay. I've acquired ones of Channon, Paine, Ron Davies, Bally & Boyer in recent years for peanuts.
Phil Boyer! Now there's a blast from the past. What a player. I remember him scoring a screaming curler at the Milton Road end in a 2-1 win against Sheffield utd; somewhen around 77-79. Forgot about him; top man.
did find some including Paine http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=...n photo&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313 but not quite for peanuts though!!!
There's an even better Phil Boyer SFC goal than that one on youtube. Don't have access to youtube at work to provide the link.
Took my old man to the Nou Camp for his 60th. Saw Athletico Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 with a young Torres getting 2 for Madrid and a young Messi in the Barcelona line-up. Ronaldinho was the star turn for Barcelona then but he got himself sent-off the weekend before so wasn't playing
I managed to pick up a copy online of Lawrie Mac's book, "Diary of a season", signed by the great man, for 7 squid, after it was recommended on here by LordDuckhunter. Was this the Phil Boyer goal you were talking about CBK ?
i have emailed his website - of his stables, so thanks for this suggestion again, hope they get in touch. really liking the stories of what people got their dads for special birthdays etc, would love to hear more for some extra inspiration!!
Saintbirdseye, if your dad doesn't get out much, then I'm assuming he still does get out some? How about a hospitality package for the first game in the championship? Wined and dined and then 3 points vs Leeds - what a birthday treat! if he has access issues, then I'm sure a suitable seat can be found at ground level.
Fabulous footage..... great strike from Stevie Williams, but the best bit is Williams letting John Wark sneak in behind him to head home unmarked and then turning round and rollocking England's best keeper.... classic Steve Williams that; legend.
dang they dont have their prices up - can anyone give me an idea for hospitality prices? never been there before
