I wrote 3-4 chapters of my magnum opus a couple of years back just to prove to an author that I know that I could do it if I put my mind to it. It may have been flatterly but they said it was pretty good. They phoned me up the other day and said they had just read a book that reminded them of mine that got published by a big major publishers....but it wasn't as good (their words not mine)

It would be a complete vanity project to do it but I was thinking of giving it a whirl. I have the story in my head already and some of it written.

Have you ever thought about it or done anything about it? It is said we all have a novel in us.....do you??

Go for it. If it gets published and you make money, would be worth it.

I have always thought that one day I'd write a novel, but have never got beyond a couple of chapters and probably never will now that I'm old and knackered and too f******g busy.

My advice to you is to do it, if you think you have the time and the self discipline. It may turn out to be rubbish, it may have literay merit, it may even be a bestseller if you can find a publisher and it captures people's imagination. You won't know unless you try it.

    Do it.

You've made my day. I now visualise the sleepy streets of Devon being patrolled by Ali G types delivering the Totnes Herald.

No time and certainly no self discipline. I know it doesn't really have any literary merit. The type of people it should appeal to don't read and the type to critique it won't get it. Rock and a hard place. I know a guy who writes similar stuff but much more lower middle class. And I have read some stuff by a guy who writes similar type stuff but from an upper middle class perspective. Mine is real **** bag working class narrative.

How much sex is in it and does the lead detective have 24hrs to solve the case or he's out of a job because those bastards at city hall are putting the pressure on?

Also, http://www.nanowrimo.org/ this is a decent place to start!

I have always wanted to write a novel but I completely lack creativity and discipline. Oh well.
