PR won't work in the UK. Look at the proportion of votes. Something like 38% con, 30% lab, 23% lib dem. You would never get a majority government.

The reason tories do ****e in Scotland is because we are a naturally thick country.

They shut the mines - They would have shut regardless
We lost jobs when steel producers shut down - Ravenscraig HAD to shut down due to pollution it was causing. The amount of jobs created through the development of a new town on the site will vastly outnumber the amount of people employed previously there.

Labours target vote are the lazy ****s that don't want to work and are happy to sponge off society. The short sightedness of some people is ridiculous. A tory government would cut benefits to those who refuse a job after 6 months of unemployment. If you force these ****s into jobs where they pay tax, everyones contributions would go down <ok>

and why wouldnt coalition gov work? most of europe has coalition gov. personally i'd go for a german or scandinavian model (some of the most stable economies in the world) over say an italian or israeli model which is more "true" PR. we've been doing fine in scotland with one as well, this idea that nothing will happen because politicians cant agree is bullshit just trying to avoid PR so that the traditional parties wont see an erosion in their power. we have a very antiquated election system where 30% of the people can choose the gov of 100% of the voters. the tories are saying they have the moral right to govern alone as they've won the most seats, thats bollocks. if a lib/lab gov is formed it would represent over half of the county (the same as if a tory/lib gov was formed).

I'm too drunk to consider your points LR

I think that a coalition wouldn't work in Britain because the political parties all seem to have a jumped up sense of their importance. The day when MPs consider themselves more as celebrities than social representatives (which I truly believe is the case in Britain) is the day when a coalition won't work.

Very few seem to actually care about the constituency they are representing, which I have found out on a few occasions in East Kilbride. The MP knows that they can do whatever they want and still be voted in the next election, and as such decides to do a vanishing act. Parties will place a representative in a constituency based on the majority they hold and how high profile the seat is, rather than a candidates ties to the local community.

So in summary, maybe a PR system could be the way to go <laugh>

The older you get, and start earning more money, the more you become inclined to vote Tory/becoem more right wing.

I didn't this time but I aa willing to see how they get on this time around... would like a Tory/Lib Dem coalition, think that woudl work well for the country.

People say coalitions are doomed to failure so PR wouldn't work! Look at Germany - this is how their system works and they were one of the first out of the global recision.

It's time for political sharing ... I was struggling with my vote this time as all 3 parties actually have some very good policies. Then again, all 3 also have some really **** polices.

**** teh typos ... typing too fast to go back and correct

PS Anybody who owns shares or their councl house (or whose parents own their council house) - you have Maggie T to thank!

i'd be fine with a lib/tory coalition. if anyone needs the lib dems for a coalition the lib dems will demand a referendum on PR. if it goes through there would be a general election soon after <ok>
