Just my excuse for giving a heads up to Defoe this year.

The little man makes me smile. He's proved doubters wrong including myself in the past...he's scored over a ton of goals for us. I used to say he's a fast track bully at times but he's scoring them when it matters.

He's proved many wrong by playing the role of lone striker very well. Something I didn't think he could do.

He gave plenty love to the Spurs this week with 4 goals in 8 days and stating his passion for our club by announcing that he intends to finish his career here.

In times where its all about the glory and money etc etc im quite happy to put the little man alongside the King's of our world. Maybe not ability wise but there is more to a man than what he can deliver for YOU...and im sure many will say that if he was better he would have jumped ship many a moon ago. To that i would say 'if your auntie had balls she would be your uncle'!.

P.s I've even heard some Chelsea fans muttering his name as an option...they would currently need 3 Toress's for that to even raise an eyebrow.

Spurlock loves those who love Spurs <ok>

I'm going for Dembele - he's come in to replace Modric and, despite playing a very different game, has done a superb job. Him and Sandro in central midfield are a great pairing, so predictions of a cataclysmic loss in our team were very, very premature.

Yeah, so far he's in front as our MVP. Vertonghen not far behind though, IMO. I've never really understand those who have had a downer on Defoe - he scores goals. He's a confidence player, and all credit to AVB, he's given him that by selecting him. And, he's repaid that confidence in a big way. His finishing is really clinical at the moment. That comes from his self- belief, which AVB has helped him regain. The Chavs can keep the Spanish donkey.

I am the first to admit I had a downer on Defoe. Without him this season though, we'd be below Arsenal probably. Glad to be proved wrong. He gets my vote. Vertonghen second for me too Hopefully he can forge a good partnership with Kaboul when he returns, but his class is already obvious.

Sandro with out a doubt. We'd have conceded a bucketful more goals without him. He will be the next one that some money bags team tries to steal from us.

I think it's fair to say Defoe's relationship with Harry had gone stale and if Harry was still around, then I doubt we would be seeing the Defoe we are currently seeing.

So full marks to AVB for rejuvenating Defoe's love for the game and for bringing the best out of him. It's also fair to say that Defoe wasn't fully fit for a long time and at one point it was felt he was going the same way as Michael Owen and would forever lose that burst of pace over the first 10 metres.

He has worked on his fitness and it's obvious he has spent hours in the gym because he looks stronger, rides a tackle better and has got that initial sharpness over a short distance back.

It takes a lot to get me out of my seat, but both his goals yesterday did. Now if only he would learn the offside law.....

    Sandro for me, too.
Interesting to note that he's mentioned today that he needs to shoot more often, which is probably the coaches suggesting one way to improve his game.
Far from essential for a player in his role, but it would make an excellent addition.

Lioris? He's well worth the number 1 shirt and has definitely added another dimension to our defence. I think we all love him in that sense.

MVP though? I don't see it

Sandro for me too, the best defensive mid in the league at the moment. I'm worried about our ability to keep hold of him past the next couple of years.

Dembele and his absence is proof of this and Sandro who is so solid in everything he does are the only ones that come close for me a third the way through.

I find Lennon to have a Mature side to his play aswell this season. Definitely a chicken that has found his head for me.

I think AVB is a better man manager than the chavs gave him credit for.

Defoe is the obvious choice but if we all say that then 'thread over'! So I will say Bale (yes another obvious one) because he has made things happen when it looked forlorn. Bale is after all, our game changing player. Dembele may well become our most valuable but at the moment I will stick with Bale.

I'm not going to say 'I told you so' about Defoe, but I told you so.

However Sandro should take this prize at the moment., he takes on a huge amount of responsiblity these days., his extraordinary commitment, drive, energy and sheer will to win, seems to have no bounds. <ok>

  17. Sandro for me - on the basis of our reliance on him so far this season. Had a relative off game against The Mousers but has otherwise been immense.

If he had remained fit, I am sure that the debate between Dembele and Sandro would have been closer.

Sure we are all glad to see the GK situation getting clearer, but to consider Lloris as MVP is either delusional or simply a WUM.

Relayer,I never wum Spurs supporters or Spurs subjects and I don't consider myself delusional. It's just my opinion that with some bloody good saves stopping us from going behind has made Lloris our MVP so far. Can't imagine why you'd insult me for an opinion. I'm accepting other's opinions without insulting and since being on this site I haven't insulted a fellow Spurs supporter. Sorry you see it this way.

  20. No offence meant Thor - just cannot see how a couple of good games could possibly be sufficient to represent a MVP tag. To look at that objectively, it is difficult to see how anyone could compare that to a player who has played virtually every minute of the season, with limited support at times and (finally) has scored a goal that turned a game and won us 3 points. And even if you discount Sandro, a 10-goal Defoe is surely still a better candidate. As would probably be a 20 yr old CB who has stepped up to the plate, scored a couple of goals himself and also played his debut for England.
When you start toting up all the alternatives - and bear in mind some of the bizarre threads and comments in this site for the past couple of months - I think that my scepticism is well founded.

But as you say, opinions is opinions....... :emoticon-0102-bigsm
