    Hi everyone,

I hope this okay to post here, moderators please move or delete if necessary.

I’m part of a team at the University of Sheffield, led by Dr Chris
Stride. We've published a number of academic papers and magazine
articles relating to football history, on subjects such as statues and
replica shirts (see, for example sportingstatues.com, and https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17460263.2019.1578255).

Our current project is investigating the music that football teams have
run or walked out of the tunnel to over the years.

We realise QPR have run out to Pigbag’s “Papa’s Got a Brand New Pigbag” over recent years.

However, what songs did the club use before this? We are simply interested in the title of the song, the artist who recorded it, and for which seasons Ipswich ran out to this. Any help you can give us to piece together the different songs that your club has run out to would be hugely appreciated.

I should also add that we are not interested in goal music, or a song that is played at the final whistle, but just the song that is on the tannoy system as the players enter the field.

If you think someone else may be able to help, or you have any questions, please let us know! We would be very happy to discuss the project.

    Cheers

So I can remember an annoying ditty by Steve Race....Pied Piper

But I have a distant memory that we used the Steptoe and Son theme tune in the 1960s, due to our proximity to "Oil Drum Lane"

Before my time but so I’m told.

Pigbag is/was the goal music but don’t remember us running out to it.

Did we once run out to London Calling rather than just playing it before games?

I'm not entirely sure Ipswich would have run out to any of them.

There's also this one by Puff Daddy. Although widely used now I think QPR were the first to use it about 8-10 years ago ...

Thank you for commenting and sharing your memories (and for calling out my misspelling of QPR to Ipswich!). It's much appreciated and is invaluable to the project.

A few fans have mentioned the Star Wars theme here and elsewhere, does anyone remember what seasons this was used in?

We're still on the lookout for other songs, so if you remember any other please us know.

And if you remember roughly what season the track was used in even better!

    Cheers

I might be wrong but didn't ‘’Tubthumping’ by Chumbawamba get played for a while, either after goals or before we came onto the pitch.
