LOCAL BANDS

OK I'm no expert but a few local bands I've seen who are worth a listen

Emerald Thieves - saw these at The Grange Excellent 2 part gig. Part 1 Celtic/Gaelic rock, Wterboys, Pogues etc, Part 2 Eagles, LynSkyn etc.
The Whole Hog - Bad Company, Free, had a few beers and can't remember the rest!!
Rusty Pins (Russ Tippins) Excellent guitarist. His solo act was part Electro Accoustic and part Electric. V professional
Gaslighters. Mostly pop but a good act and one to take the missus to
The Force ?? anybody seen these? going to see them at Sleepers week on Sunday

@ Lostinvegas - great post mate.

Good to hear from somebody who is plugged into the music industry these days. Sad to learn that the Internet is creating such massive competition that great talent is going unnoticed.

But WTF guys? Are you all so young that we have had zero mentions of The True Greats?

Like the Eagles, Credence Clearwater, Mamas & Papas, Jefferson Airplane, Mark Knopfler, U2 (met them once and the bassas did not even buy me a pint), Abba, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Leo Sayer, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Mike Oldfield . . and my all time favourite - Dean Martin.

Me - I am probably in a minority, being born a country boy and all that. A dash of Don Williams, a silken brush with Crystal Gayle.

Off now to reminisce on YouTube. A few clips of Kelly's Heroes will get me in the mood.
 
I can think of some Tyne music connections..Geordie, Dire Straits, Police etc and some Tees connections...Free, "Road to Hell" etc but are there any Durham connections? Or is our claim to fame Cheer Up Peter Reid @#41 and Roger Whitaker leaving "Durham Town"?

Sunderland connection Eurythmics. <ok>
 
I'm a bit older than most if not all of you guys here So forgive me if you've never heard of these I've always been a lover of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and all the other exponents of "The Cool" and to a lesser extent later but more well known guys like Dave Brubeck and Gerry Mulligan. If you've never heard of them and you're over 45 ask your dad, if you're younger than that ask your grandad. They were great then and they're still great today.
