Thank you for your input, JFB. Perhaps you spotted that there is a slight difference between posting twice and doubled or multiple posts. Duplicate posts all have the same time. 
For those actually moaning about multiple posts, I have an answer. Stop posting. You are making the problem worse. The multiple post count is approximately how many times you nearly succeeded in posting, and you've probably tried a few more times with the same post. Once you've tried twice, stop. The server isn't listening because it is at its processing limit. Copy your text, go away and come back in 10 minutes. If the same thing happens, then go away again. Posting will just make the problem stick around.
And by the way, there is very little us Mods can do to sort out the situation, other than to clear up all the multiple posts and perhaps PM those that can make a difference, although they usually know well in advance of us. We don't have the keys to the safe, I'm afraid.
