Watching on television in Pompey's last premiership season, I was not greatly impressed with Haydon Mullins. A high percentage of his passes were unsuccessful. To such (very limited)extent that Pompey got television coverage Downunder last season I saw nothing to change my view.

However, watching on television can be very misleading. Off the ball work rate, marking, and pace are less apparent on the box that from live viewing.

    Am I missing something?

I think Mullins is an unsung hero at Pompey . His work rate is second to none , especially in the middle of the field and lets not forget , when in our last year in the Premiership , he finished off the season superbly . Very level headed chap IMO .

Like Nugent, Mullins got a lot of stick from Pompey fans while in the PL. Last season they were key figures in Pompeys effort (depending on the month) to both gain promotion and avoid relegation.

Mullins can be frustrating sometimes - but there again you can say that for a lot of the players last season in respect of consistency, etc.

We definitely needed him once Brown & Hughes stopped playing for us due to their (in my opinion) thoughtless actions financially.

Just hope he can link up well with David Norris in the centre of midfield next season.

Definite unsung hero....works really hard and is fairly versatile. I think will be a good pairing with Norris....I think he's been that sort of player wherever he's played, Palace & West Ham and with our numbers we need that.
