Fabrice Muamba was "in effect dead" for 78 minutes following his on-field collapse, the Bolton Wanderers club doctor Jonathan Tobin has revealed. Doctors say it is too early to predict whether he will play football again. But Dr Tobin said he is amazed by the 23-year-old's recovery so far. In an emotional interview, Dr Tobin said: "It was 48 minutes when he collapsed to reaching hospital and a further 30 minutes after that. He was, in effect, dead at that time." He added: "We were fearing the worst and didn't think we would get the recovery we had. It's incredible." Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest in Wanderers' FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday. Dr Tobin told BBC Sport's Dan Roan how Bolton physio Andy Mitchell was the first to spot the player had collapsed. The doctor recalled: "He screamed, 'Get on the pitch, get on the pitch'. It was obvious something major was happening." Dr Tobin said Muamba was given two defibrillator shocks on the pitch, one in the players' tunnel and a further 12 in the ambulance on the way to hospital but none worked.
I wonder if he can shed light on whether there is anything afterlife... just its a mystery what happens, and never known someone be dead for 78 minutes. BUT i'm glad he's much better, read he cracked a joke about Coyle's tie. Very positive signs!
Just when you thought it was impossible that Thierry Henry could be any more of a legendary chieftain having gone public with his plans to build a colossal three-storey fish tank recently, the little blighter goes and flies 5,000 miles from the US to pop in and spend a bit of time at Fabrice Muamba’s hospital bedside. Henry finished up playing for New York Red Bulls against Real Salt Lake in Utah on Sunday afternoon then hopped on board a series of flights to drop in and give Muamba a ‘get well soon’ message at the London Chest Hospital the following evening, spending more than an hour with his former Arsenal teammate and his gathered family. Granted, Henry shouldn’t really be the focus given the circumstances, but the guy’s a class act. ............................... Topper.
Must admit, I can't find one single thing I don't like about Henry. That said, I'm not Irish lol. The bloke was and still is a class act. This is so typical of the man. Really pleased to hear Muamba has even cracked jokes with his doctors. Still a way to go of course but the signs are very good he will fully recover.
Over the moon for the lad...Wouldn't want to be paying his next electric bill though... Henry...Superb.
