"While I knew that this job would be a challenge when I took it on, the difficult season we have experienced was not something that I envisaged, which I am sure is the case as well for you supporters - and my players, staff and I are desperate to compensate for that.

"You are accustomed to seeing a successful Manchester United and the backing you have given the players and me throughout the season has been incredible.

"Away from home the travelling fans have remained the best in the country while at Old Trafford your unwavering faith has been noticeable and hugely welcomed.

"Supporting your team when they are winning is easy but much harder when things are not going as well, and the loyalty you have shown us has been magnificent.

"Everywhere we turn people outside the club have a lot to say about Manchester United, but we have all stuck together through some tough times this season and I firmly believe that, in the long run, we will all come out at the other end, stronger for the experiences.

"Everything we have been through will make us a better, stronger team and club in the future.

"Over the years you have seen great winning sides here and, in time, I have absolutely no doubt that we will see great winning sides here again.

"A big step towards that will be transforming Old Trafford back into the fortress it has long been renowned as, and we will do everything in our power to get the positive performances and results to do that, so that we can give you season ticket holders and all of our supporters something to shout about."

Could he be more desperate to keep the fans onside?

Can see why he's done it but comes across as a little pathetic really.

A desperate act, from a desperate man.

It's getting to the stage where it's starting to be uncomfortable watching this.....feels like rubber necking....

Moyes can't hack it at a huge club like United. It was easy at a small club like Everton but at United he can't handle the pressure.

It's uncomfortable for Tobes because he's spent the previous seasons telling us how great Moyes is.....plus every bitter blue has united as their second team <whistle>

No, he took years getting it right at Everton and got dogs abuse at times just like he's getting from the prawnies now.

The fact is Moyes is right to ask for time and patience, he knows Fergie left a mess of a squad, a squad only he could wring the balls out of. Fergie managed to get by due to the influence he had over media, the FA (thus the ref's) and the players. We all know how clever he was, clever enough to cover up the train wreck the Glazers have created....and surely clever enough to know what would happen with this squad when he moved upstairs <ok> Fergies team....Fergies appointment....Fergies legacy

Nah, as good as Fergie was he wasn't Jesus ffs. That squad won the league by 11 points last season & currently has 23 points less than at the same stage last year, that's not solely due to a 'weak' squad, it's due to some shocking team selections, tactics, coaching and substitutions i.e. Management. Moyes has made an absolute dogs knob of it so far, and he's rightfully getting stick for it. If he'd had been given a job at any of the other 'big 4' in England and delivered what he has done at United, he'd have been clearing his desk at Christmas, he's only being afforded this length of item due to the shoes he's been asked to fill.
