His record is also better than Paisley, who did take over the best in the league, and arguably close to the best in Europe at the time.
Liverpool were not champions when Paisley replaced Shankley.Leeds were the champions.Trust the word of an old man who remembers
Didn't Fergie finish 13th or thereabouts? Moyes has had a terrible season, no doubt, considering the players and finances at his disposal; however, it may have been current champions- but they were still in need of extensive refurbishment. I don't think Moyes would ever lead United to regular trophies like Fergie did- but I've no doubt he can make the team regulary be in top 4 if he keeps his job. The fact that he was constantly near the top 4 with Everton makes me think he has it in him to be top 4 again. This year is probably a bit of an anomaly to be honest. That said, I think your ambitions are probably higher than just regulary being top 4. You don't want a Scottish Wenger at your helm.
Aye, but wasn't that the Damned Utd season? Paisley came in as Leeds imploded, so you could argue Liverpool were the best in England at the time, even if they weren't champions. Same way you could argue Utd weren't the best in England when Moyes came in, even tho' we'd just won the league, as losing SAF was as big a blow as Leeds losing Revie the way they did.
Please explain your point Swarbs. At a guess there is none. Moyes is ****ing ****e. no 2 ways about it. No matter how many ridiculous articles or stats are shown to make out hes any good, the guy is a terrible manchester united manager. Any manager who wins their first game....... must be better than fergie because well.... he lost is...... or not?
Or you could argue we were because we just dominated the league like no club has in almost a decade. Losing fergie effected the club but hiring moyes just completely ****ed us. It was like losing the worlds best surgeon, the one all others aspire to and hiring the cleaner to do the operation.
It would be true to say it was the start of Liverpool's dominance but Leeds did get to the European Cup final that season.
Don't think it's that much of an anomaly tbh. I've said it before - SAF, Paisley and Joe ***an are the only managers since Herb Chapman's day to actually improve a championship winning team, which shows how hard it is. It's even harder for a manager to take over a team at the top, as the pressure is higher and it's harder to work out what's wrong and needs fixing. That's not saying Moyes will actually succeed at Utd, but imo it won't be possible to say for certain (cue UIR rant about how he's the worst manager in the history of forever) unless he has a fair crack at next season.
I wonder what the next act of pathetic desperation will be spewed out to make Moyes look good. The things weve had so far. Its not Moyes' fault because: 1. Manchester United are actually rubbish. Weve bluffed the past 20 years. 2. Actually no, Fergie was 100% responsible. The players had **** all to do with it. 3. The players are not playing for moyes. them doing everything he instructs of course is there way of undermining Dave. 4. Fergie left him a load of **** players at a **** club run by **** people. 100% Fergie fault. 5. he needs 7trillion to spend of 4000 new players to replace every player bar rooney as the truth is they are all League one players 6. Anyone would have struggled. All managers are equal and they all crumble like ****s at the thought of a big job 7. Fergie finished 13th first time round so even though thats wrong ( he finished 2nd ) lets just keep pretending its not Im sure Ive missed many more but above is no exaggeration. All were said at some point by the press, the club and by fans. Every single one, and every single defence of moyes that includes passing the blame is bullshit. 100% bullshit.
Nope, hes one of the worst managers this season though. Taking into account resources and squad quality hes failed. Massively.
Great post. I'd also add I get a bit frustrated when ppl simply say "he took over a title winning side". Moyes would have deserved every bit of criticism and hate he's getting IF he'd taken over the 2007 or 2008 title winning United squad. Also the point about how he managed to keep Everton sniffing around top 5 with the teams he's had is spot on.
