Well, I think I called that fairly well. I was right about 'Pool not scoring. They were quite inept, really. Once can only imagine the trouncing they are going to suffer in Spain!

Hopefully, Mousers will have woken up to the fact that they simply are no where good enough to mix it with Europe's elite. Most of us, of course, knew that 'Pool's inclusion among the CL places was a complete waste. Still, at least they can get on with playing in the Europa - although they will have to moderate their expectations in that competition, too, because I think they'll find they struggle against the half-decent sides.

Anyway, well done to Brendan for keeping the scoreline respectable.

Oh yes because the other English teams do us proud every year, don't they. The only team to do well is Chel$ea with their bucket loads of cash and anti-football. The prem is deteriorating imho.

Over on the mouser board, they're tearing Balotelli a new one and rightly so. Why they thought he was any where near a replacement for Suarez is beyond me? Totally difference type of player and mentality. Both have a screw loose or two I suppose so I guess that's where the similarity lies.

I never appreciated just how disinterested Balotelli is. I can accept a lack of goals if he actually pressed, tracked back, and ran around. He really has no reason to be arrogant, he hasn't earned the right to swan around. The shirt swap just highlights his apathy. Can't wait till Sturridge returns

I'm afraid Rodgers has ****ed up there. Balotelli is just taking the piss - and the money, of course.

Well, you could argue he thought it was a risk worth taking. We weren't able to get the best strikers (or weren't willing to pay), like Cavani or Falcao, and it meant Lambert was our only other choice. So balotelli, with his 1 in 2 goal ratio, proven prem experience, 24 years old, and £16m looked like a risk worth taking (especially when Sturridge went and got his obligatory seasonal injury). But the lad refuses to learn, adapt or contribute and so he's either thick, arrogant or stubborn, or all three.

Mourinho doesn't go out to entertain, he sets out to win. He's got massive experience in how to succeed in Europe. And he knows the Premiership well, too. He sets his teams up to counter the particular opposition he has to play against. That's why he's successful.

I think it's a touch of all three. For me, the price would have set the warning bells off. Plus the fact that Milan were so willing to sell!...

...£16m looked like a risk worth taking...

Not when it was so patently clear that the bloke is a Grade 1 asshole. Everyone could see it apart from Rodgers. The Mouser-loving media gave you the benefit of the doubt and us normal punters had to suffer the nauseating patronage from the likes of Lawro, Hansen, Mickey Dim, Mark "I Like To Lick Brendan's Crack" Saggers, and other assorted Mouser-lovers. Now, all of those muppets are having to eat humble pie and admit that they got it hopelessly wrong. You were told, time and time again, that without Goofy you would revert quickly back to a mid-table side, and that is exactly what is happening.

And mid-table sides simply should have no place in the CL, as is being proven to be the case.

"And mid-table sides simply should have no place in the CL, as is being proven to be the case."

I respectfully disagree with this statement.

Players in mid-table sides should have the opportunity to tell their grandsons how they got mauled at home
by the likes of Get real Madrid in a competitive game. No vaguely decent human would ever begrudge
such players that opportunity. <shame on you>

We have a defence leakier than a sieve and a second choice striker that can't score, yet look where you all are

Mark Lawrenson says it was "sheer madness" for Mario Balotelli to swap shirts at half-time in Liverpool's Champions League defeat to Real Madrid. The striker made the swap with Pepe as his side trailed Real by three goals, and he was substituted at the break.

BBC football analyst Lawrenson believes Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers should fine the player and drop him.

"It is all about Mario Balotelli. He lives in his own little world, but there is no 'I' in team," he said.

Liverpool lost 3-0 and lie third in their Champions League group.

Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson added: "Balotelli is 24 years old and a dad. Everybody thought it was time for him to settle down, but, if anything, he is getting worse. Pepe and Mario Balotelli walked off together at half-time and swapped shirts.

"At Queens Park Rangers on Sunday he gave a non-performance, and then last night, it was sheer madness. He (Rodgers) will fine him, probably a couple of weeks wages, and pick Rickie Lambert instead at the weekend."

Lawrenson, who won five league championships and a European Cup during seven seasons at Anfield, also criticised the Italian's poor work-rate.

He added: "Everyone can forgive you if you miss chances, but you have to give everything to the team. Does he do that? I don't think so. I'm one of millions of Liverpool fans thinking, 'What is he doing? At least Rickie Lambert will give everything."

This is utterly hilarious!

Lawro was one of the many Mouser-loving twats who, at the start of the season, was commending Rodgers on a brilliant bit of business in bringing The Mad Mohawk to LFC, when everyone one else was stating clearly that it was a stupid waste of money!

And what is Lawro's advice to Rodgers? That's right: drop the mad bastard! Like that's going to make things better! What Lawro doesn't seem to understand is that Balotelli is not only as mad as a hatter, but also twice as violent, with an ego bigger than Goofy's bite. The idea that Balotelli is going to take a massive fine and a demotion behind the likes of Lambert is, to put it frankly (which is what I always try to do on this thread) a flight of fancy dreamed up in the mind of a rabid ****wit.

How on earth Lawro is able to find his own arsehole when he gets out of bed in the mornings, let alone manages to con a wage out of the BBC, is utterly beyond me.

Can someone explain to me what the big issue is over swapping shirts? Surely not the £70 it costs?

The Premier League is much harder than La Liga or the Bundesliga and doesn't give teams in Europe any help, which is why some sides struggle with it.
You get three hard games in a week, while Bayern, Real and Barca often have strolls in the park on the weekend, especially the Spanish sides.

Barcelona's last league opponents were the famous SD Eibar, a fellow Basque side.
They have a ground capacity of 5,250, an average attendance last season when they won the Segunda division of 2,901 and their record signing cost £60,000.
There are several sides in our Conference division with larger grounds, higher attendances and who've spent more money.

After eight games? Lose to Hull on the weekend at they go above you.

One Evertonian clearly isn't impressed with this celebrity Liverpool fan:

Why is it that 'Pool seem to have the monopoly on asshole players, these days?

"It's still early days... let's see what he's like when everyone is gelling together, confident etc."

The "g" word has been mentioned : game over for Poool 2014-15 !!! :D

This thread still going?

Should be #3 by now surely - HIAG you're standards are slipping lad.
