The rumours circulating this morning that Fergie is to quit Utd, coupled with the rumours that Mourinho is to imminently return to England, lends some weight to the old rumours that Mourinho would eventually end up at Utd. The way the two have been licking each others arses for the past few years would suggest that there's some truth to all of this, but events will unfold quickly today and it could all change, as it stands Fergie is due to release a statement early this afternoon, but of course that could be to announce his sex change op in the summer
I thinK Moye's is probably too low profile....modern football unfortunately craves instant success. Especially when there's a share price to protect. Mourinho is no brainer.
I hope it's Moyes. I don't rate him very highly. I think he manages a very robust, conservative team, and is just a dressed up version Tony Pulis, with slightly more resources. It will be interesting to see if he can manage a team playing attacking football, if he gets the United job.
I tend to agree with this. Moyes is a decent manager and good at grinding out results, but I think the step up to a team who are expected to play free flowing attacking football is not in his mould.
I wouldn't exactly say mourinio plays free flowing attacking football, in fact I think most of his teams have been very robust and almost robotic in their approach, certainly would not class him as producing great football.
Tend to agree also. Roman sacked him because he wanted Sexy football, but Mourinho is a pragmatist; albeit with a bit more flair than Moyes
This is trueish. Mourinho does have a very defensive look when he plays Bearcelona type teams, but he does tend to change his tactics against others. Above all else Mourinho is a winner, he tends to pick the tactic for the occasion rather than being grounded in any one philosophy. I have seen Mourinho teams playing fast open football, when the occasion demanded it.
Mourinho's ability is unquestionable really. He's been successful everywhere he has been. His teams tend to play dull unattractive football but they get results. To be honest he's the one manager I hope United dont get. Probably the only guy who can match Fergies success rate.
Maybe, but problem for United was that how long would he have stayed there? He loves to move around and is not the sort of manager that United wanted. I think in the end they wanted someone for the long term and therefore they turned to David Moyes, as many have said, he seems to be the perfect fit for that club.
I think it's pretty likely he'll leave at the end of next season when his contract runs out. Laudrup would be the obvious choice for me if Swansea have another good season
Wenger is 7-8 years younger than SAF, who is 71. Wenger will probably want to manage until he is at least 65 and at this point, he probably doesn't have time to run (i.e. start) another project at another club. I don't think Arsenal will sack him, so it really is a question of when he wants to retire. For me that is after he has had success, or when he gets tired of it. So, I would say he will go when he achieves success again or 5 years, whichever is sooner.
I don't get this...not a dig...i honestly don't get it. 2 years ago every one was raving about Owen Coyle and how he'd be going to a big job; similar story with holloway...I think swansea winning the cup was a great achievment but the truth is they have been really poor since that win so in effect he (laudrap) has had a good september - February!
I can see Wenger giving it 1 more year, if next year is miserable i think he'll retire, with Jurgen Klopp, Joachim Loew or Remi Garde as his successor.
Some of the names I've seen banded about by people as Wenger's successor have been nothing short of staggering. We even had someone on here (now thankfully gone) who was advocating that Fat Sam could do a better job Then there was Piers Morgan, calling for Arry to replace Wenger . . .
I would wear a gooner shirt every day for a year to see fat sam as your manager That man is to football what a kick in the ball bag is to fore play!
