Mourinho lauds Granero's work rate Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has praised Esteban Granero as the most hardworking player at the club. Granero, started his career on the youth ranks of Real but having failed to break into the first team, left the club to join fellow La Liga outfit Getafe in 2007. As with most of the young players that are allowed to leave the club, Real included a buy-back clause in the transfer deal, and after Granero impressed in his two seasons at Getafe, the Spanish giants exercised that option and brought the midfielder back to the Santiago Bernabeu. While Granero managed to play a signficant amount of matches last season, his time on the field has been limited under Mourinho this year, as he struggles to get a game with many big name players at Real all competing for spots. His coach, however, has praised Granero for this work ethic, and expressed his pain at not being able to reward his player's training ground performances. Speaking in an interview on Real's television channel, Mourinho revealed: "It pained me to leave Granero in the stands against Real Sociedad because nobody works as much as he does." "He is physically fit, intelligent and has a great heart. He always wants to help the team." While Real this season have regularly played with two wide attackers supporting a central striker, Granero is more suited playing in an attacking central role. Mourinho has since suggested that it is this tactical setup that does not allow Granero more game time. "Granero's natural postion is in a 4-4-2 system within a diamond schematic. There is no one better at Real Madrid to play in that position." The Spaniard did however manage to start Real's most recent La Liga encounter against Racing Santander and put in an encouraging performance in a 3-1 win. http://www.sabotagetimes.com/footba...to-know-about-the-pirate-on-his-way-to-spurs/ This article is a little old but you'll get what I'm aiming for. So Mourinho is saying Granero is AMF. He was converted to CMF/DMF just beacuse Real already had Ozil and Kaka at AMF position. We don't have Ozil and Kaka as our AMF so why Hughes is not playing Granero in more advance position. The point of this thread is that I think that Hughes isn't talking full advantages of having Granero in the team.
With the exception of Cesar I don't think he's taking full advantage of anyone's potential in the team.
Yeah...... but he's not at Real..... and, we don't have the likes of Ronaldo, Ozil etc, running around him in that formation, nor the likes of Higuain and Benzema in front. On the bright side, if we were to employ a similar play, then why in the hell isn't Faurlin in there, then?
No I don't think we can pull off 4-4-2. I just think as Mourinho said that Granero should be our central attacking player in 4-2-3-1 and Diakite could join him while Faurlin could be the deep lying playmaker.
I been saying this all season - I think Ale and Diakite would do well as the 2 more holding CM players as they compliment each other, (Ale neat simple strong passing, while Diakite has the speed which Ale lacks). Then Granero could play centrally in the three with Adel and Hoillet each side, or on the right with Adel central and Hoillet out left, his best place I think. I would imagine with his passing foot Granero would do great out right, Beckhamesqe but probably better. And Adel is probably best in the middle.

And this is how we should take advantage of his crosses
its so f'ing obvious that Faurlin and Diakite would be the 2 in a 4-2-3-1 with Granero in the middle of the 3 - I think this is where most of our frustration comes from with MH - his refusal to even entertain this formation. Possession is key in the modern game and we have 3 high quality central midfielders that fit this style but he leaves one constantly on the bench?? It still allows Diakite to go charging forward on occasions but gives us the stability of 3 central midfielders to ensure we can at least try to control possession Hoilett and Taraabt are good enough to exchange wings as the wider players - I would prob start Cisse up front. I know he's been frustrating but strikers do need a regular run of games so whilst acknowledging some attitude issues its tough for him to influence the game when he keeps just getting 10 mins at the end. I think its fair to say he looked massively more dangerous as the one up front yesterday than BZ has for the last few weeks Its taken MH 10 games to get close to our best 11 almost by accident but Faurlin's omission is still inexplicable to us all - my concern is that when Park is fit he will be straight back (although I have no idea where his best position is) and we will never get the best 11 on the pitch. You have assume Park would have played the last 2 games if fit... One of our best 45 mins this season and arguably for many years before that was the 1st half against Spurs when Faurlin and Granero totally controlled the game......so why is he now being frozen out. You have to assume there is some personality issue or is MH really that f'ing obstinate??
Can't fault what's been said thus far. However, there's a big difference in squad and first eleven quality between us and Real Madrid. This gives a player like Granero far more opportunity to develop his range, and from what I've seen and read so far, Granero is more than capable and will jump at the opportunities provided for a big fish in a small pond for a change. Excellent player and lovely guy to boot. Seems to fit in where he's needed most.
