Jose Mourinho could make a sensational January effort to sign Newcastle full-back Davide Santon, according to French newspaper Le 10 Sport.

Chelsea seem set to be in for a very busy winter transfer window, with a number of high-profile targets being linked with the club.

And now it seems Santon, a former protege of Mourinho during their time at Inter Milan, could be the subject of an offer, as its been rumoured that the Portuguese coach is interested in him.

It's the general consensus that the Blues boss is keen to put his own mark on the squad left to him by Rafael Benitez, and he perhaps sees the 22-year-old as a long-term replacement for the ageing Ashley Cole.

Santon, who arrived at St. James' Park in 2011 after ultimately failing to make the grade at Inter, has been impressive in the left-back berth and may just be tempted by a move that would reunite him with his old mentor.

It is believed that Alan Pardew is determined to keep hold of his most influential players, but Newcastle could be lured into a deal if a lucrative enough offer is on the table.

 

We could do with Ba's goals.

 

I'd say Santon would be valued by MA at £10m and Chelsea value Ba at £8m so Santon + £2m would float his boat I reckon.

I'm usually optimistic, and we look very good in patches which is what so frustrating. Chelsea are starting to really click though and I think mourinho will def have our number. Even a point here though would be absolutely massive at this moment in time, in terms of belief and that.

I cannot fathom why anyone wouldn't want Demba given what we are suffering at present in attack. The guy was great for us.

 

Would love Demba back but I'm sure I read he only wants to join a Champions League team.

 

Not a team player, highly selfish and clearly couldn't give a monkeys in the final few weeks. If he was prepared to play on the left with Cisse up top and Remy on the right then fair play - another Dyer clone in my eyes.

 

10 times the striker Cisse will ever be. We are crying out for someone like him through the middle. Pointless playing him left when he is a central striker. One of the main reasons he became unsettled was playing him left. If we were going to get someone better, then fair enough I could do without his mercenary ways, However beggars can't be choosers and we zero through the middle, they're all mercenaries.

Why would we play Cisse through the middle if we had Demba? It would make no sense given Ba is far superior.
