Played 5 a side with Juninho when I was about 12. Immense. I was bigger than him aswell. Proper little magician.
Jay Jay was brilliant for us even though he was past his prime. Bolton have had some pretty decent players when Allardyce was in charge. Djorkaeff was a great player.
Once I saw Shearer wasn't on there I stopped giving it any attention. I'd have him in a Premiership 11 anyway so the idea of not being in a top 10 of players outside the "big 6" is a joke. Newcastle have had some good players but they pick Batty and Speed over Shearer, Lee or Jonathan Woodgate (who was twice the player of most on the list). Farce!!
Think we ended up with about 20 11/12 year olds chasing after him. Couldn’t get anywhere near him. Pretty sure he didn’t speak any English either. Just kept smiling and laughing nervously
Indeed... we played them in the League cup final and Martin O'Neil had Pontus Kaamark, terrific little player - was Sweden captain - man mark him. Did it brilliantly and was a key factor in giving us our first trophy since the 60s.
I'm surprised one of the Prem clubs have not gone in for Bradley Dack by now. Seems unreal that we turned down a £2Million offer for him one time (2015-16). We eventually sold him to Blackburn nigh the end of his contract in 2017 for £750k. As an attacking midfielder he has scored 42 goals in 106 games. His tally was not as good as that for us, but that was due to past managers we had, that I felt failed him at times, but even despite that, he always gave 100% effort, and there is not many players you can say that about these days. Probably don't mean much to people outside of L1 but defo one of the best players I've seen grace a Gills shirt. His model for style of play is Frank Lampard.
It’s the big one now. They were second, last time I looked. Saints were still cannon fodder though tbf, along with two thirds of the division.
I’m sure there’s a few players in the lower leagues who would thrive in the PL if they ever got the chance. There’s plenty others who will get the chance, and won’t cut it. Them’s the breaks, as they say
He did his cruciate not that long ago. Probably unfair on him but he’s a bit of a lad. Shagging (married maybe now) a 6 foot blonde off Love Island. Good luck to him but maybe puts would-be managers off. I think he’s a terrific player. Maybe would be a touch too slow for the Prem but there are certainly worse players out there when Bournemouth are happy to pay £16m for Solanke.
Like yourself, we've been going to football for so many years, the ones that will make the breaks we generally spot quite early on. I think Paulo Gazzaniga was the quickest I spotted, before he was even in the first team. You just know. As for Dack, fans found favour with a Norwich player Cody McDonald, who did well for us, the only problem was Cody's selection, the way he played, and having supporters on his side, I believe personally hampered Dack's career, not that he has ever hinted that, it's just what I think personally. But it's as you say, them the breaks. Just to demonstrate how tits up things can go, look at Luke Rooney, who now plays for Welling Utd! He had dreams, the only problem as I saw it, was having his old man as agent, he went for his dream of playing for Paulo di Canio, I believe that dream cost him his career, but hey what the fook do we know as supporters eh
Yeah, I knew about the cruciate, I couldn't remember how long ago that was. As you rightly point out, and I'll use my terminology, a jack the lad, but never flash with it, just amusing, good for team spirit as he would always be the clown, thankfully that clown never entered on to the pitch.
We've been linked with him several times ... seem to recall we went for Maddison instead at the time that the rumours were rife ... good player, eye for a goal
