I know there was a seperate thread about Shearers comments on Adel so won't comment on that, however watching last night he did appear to make some very valid points on how to play against saints and their pressing game, using quick incisive passing taking 3, 4 or 5 of thier players out of the game in one move....lets hope Harold was watching and can somehow between now and saturday instill this type of passing into the side otherwise i fear the worst.....
" quick incisive passing " :Crazy talk I fully expect them to rip us a new one, good team Soton, and that is something we ain't!
Must admit Northy that at the moment i can not see where our next goal is coming from let alone our next point......
We'll get plenty of points Tramore........................... by drawing 0-0. Will we score? That is the question.
I thought Saints looked very good yesterday and they wouldn't give up even if we do score. He will go to contain and Hope Samba bosses Lambert ... we have to win a very ugly game there so who knows what will happen. They went for the toon throats both halves but do have a soft under belly ... our best hope is that they get over confident as they will fancy it no doubt
I know I am in the mad minority who still believe we can get out of this but I've just got us down for a draw on Saturday. A win would be incredible.
And this is why I would be worried if you played two up top against us. Invariably at least one of our fullbacks will be in the opposition's half when we're attacking (sometimes even both of them), whilst Cork and Schneiderlin run around the pitch the warriors (and hence aren't too often found just sat in cement in front of the CBs). So if you can win the ball back, get it forward quickly (be it quick passing, or just a long ball), and have bodies already up there, then you can have success against us. But unless you have two or three players up there (or at the very least one player, and then another couple who can sprint up there in a matter of no time), then hitting us quickly like Newcastle did just wont have much of an affect. Our players are seriously fit (partly I guess because they're generally all so young, partly because Adkins was a fitness fanatic), so if you give us any sort of time to get bodies back, then we will get them back. We're also not the best at defending set pieces (corners or free-kicks), so Samba does worry here.
Of course on the other hand, if you don't get a grip on Lambert (the Liverpool and Sunderland CBs did a fantastic job on him), and you allow Cork and Schneiderlin to dominate your midfield, and you don't live with our fitness levels for the full 90 minutes, then I see no reason why we shouldn't cause your defence as much (if not more) problem than you could potentially cause ours.
I am in that camp as well but I have been harping on about these times and these matches for a while now and I agree we have to get something from this game absolutely cannot lose this game Madness or not but this is it for me and the reason prior to this not to panic ... we get spanked Saturday then I will adjust to the self called realists ... This is it for me countdown to a cup final and we need to grab, kick start, jump start, rape pillage and steal and even kill to get a bit of form going and the form has to the right sort as well ... as people know i think we have the players to do this. The Saints must be dispatched or its going to get very tough. The potential is there and having read Mackie's comments today then stand and ****ing deliver
Don't worry, we have no-one who can take a corner, they are either chipped in with no pace , or hit the first man.
That's more like it brother. A bit of fire in the belly instead of waffling. Show us the true warrior that you are.
Another thing is that we simply have to get bodies in the box to score...did you notice how far sissoko ran to score his goal....we have nobody making those sort of runs.....if saints have 5 or 6 players in our box and we can break quick we may have a chance but ih has to be done at pace...
The game's up. They've and we've all got to you Dave, I'm so sorry. To me it wasn't ever going to be the maths that would finally confirm to me we were down, it was always when the Oh Great Voice of Positivity finally went down a few notches. Personally, I've gone through the denial, distressed phases and now vehemently in the bloody furious stage. Am facing up to the fact that we are more than likely to end up in League 1 faster than a man who's lactose intolerant, finds himself in the loo after washing down an extremely hot Curry with a prune milk shake laced with laxatives! And as for Queenslander, you should just shut up mate and thank your lucky stars that you're not having to fork out on time and money to see this shower in vain hope! These bastards have been spouting the same ****e every week - Pound for Pound, the worst squad in our history!! :-(
No NO No No NO No No NO No No NO No No NO No I was weak shake your head DT we are going to do this with this squad It has to work it has to work
Remy up top with Adel, Hoilett and Townsend behind him. Hit them on the break with real pace and we may have a chance of getting something.
Any time I've seen him this season, he's looked like a glorified Shaun Wright Phillips to me. He might make a good first touch and set off on a sprint but in the end, he doesn't know what to do with the ball. Just another in a long line of let-downs this season IMO.
