    As regards the above, I'd say Victor Valdes.
    The guy is a distinctly average keeper at best, and some people are actually saying 'oh well he's got more clean sheets than Reina, so he must be better.' If I played in goal for Barca, I probably would too!
    Against Arsenal and United in last seasons Champions' League, he had a grand total of 3 shots on target to deal with (excluding the og at the Nou Camp) and how many goals did he concede? 3.

    its a hard question and maybe the world player of the year nominee list is a place to start.

    the list is;

    Éric Abidal (France), Sergio Agüero (Argentina), Karim Benzema (France), Iker Casillas (Spain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Dani Alves (Brazil), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Cesc Fàbregas (Spain), Diego Forlán (Uruguay), Andrés Iniesta (Spain), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Müller (Germany), Nani (Portugal), Neymar (Brazil), Mesut Özil (Germany), Gerard Piqué (Spain), Wayne Rooney (England), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands), Luis Suárez (Uruguay), David Villa (Spain), Xabi Alonso (Spain), Xavi (Spain).

    my thoughts;

    1. rooney is the only english nominee and lets be quite frank here. he had a poor enough year last year didn't he?

    2. eric abidal.. i have to say he's the worst left back i've seen since traore.

    3. benzema... seriously? he wasn't too hot was he either

    so i think that answers the question.. there are years when nobody stands out but to get a nomination i think playing well internationally is a must so barca players and uruguay players have that in their pocket... what precisely did sneijder do this year?

    From that list I'd say as follows:

    Ronaldo, Nani, Rooney. Does this surprise anyone? :emoticon-0116-evilg

    Schweinsteiger has been awesome this year, but nani is on that list? I know he had a good year last year but there were no other wingers they rated higher?

    in fairness utd were in the cl final (despite what we called an easy run ) so rooney and nani are in for that.

    I think overall there's a fari few english based players to go on the over rated list that are up and coming but the biggest one for me is gareth bale. mr i'll donkey 10 across and if one connects i'm great.... yeah he's got some pace, yeah he's got a little skill but come on! milner has more and gets critised. the guy is a bit one trick for the rating he's getting.

    To be fair I think there are very few 'wingers' that are better than Nani.

    After I put this I started to go through and although I might think some are, like someone said, Nani had a good year, loads of goals and they made the CL and (gulp) won 19.

    MITO, been awhile since I heard someone say that about Bale........and I agree! I think he won that player of the year award due to beating Inter Milan and toasting Maicon, don't think he is bad, but he is not that that great!

    I would actually say Gareth Bale is underrated. People are so hellbent on putting his ability down at every opportunity for some reason. He's much better than MITO's description of him, and he's not as one dimensional as that either, I'd actually say he's one of the best crosses in the division at this moment in time.

    I would say Lucaaas, that it is mainly due to everyone hyping him up so much, but he is not the prodigal son as many put him out there as. He can go missing and when marked effectively can be easily taken out of the game due to him needing to run at you to get his momeentum going, his confidence going,etc.

    Prime example being he saw Skrtel, Skrtel's lack of positioning at RB and the space given to Bale.....he torched him. Again, I don't think he is a bad player, but I don't think he is worth 40 million pounds either.

    One of the best stories I ever read was when he went to Milan, got caught kicking one of the black players ( and a bit of racism emerged of course). Oguchi Onyewu had just come back from a horrific knee injury and Ibra went in hard on him thinking he would not react and Ibra was billy big boots, my Black belt taikwondo, etc. Onyewu went straight after him and broke one of his ribs.

    he might not be the best but loads of respect and Onyewu's rating went way up from me after that!!

    I'd go ballistic if my own teammate cleaned me out from behind or you could tell it was intentional. nothing wrong with a hard challenge but when you know there is intent to do damage you say something, or in his case, do something.

    Don't know about in the world, but Nicklas Bendtner rates himself very highly - he's in a family of one there...
