I agree with the most part of your list except The Beatles. Like I said earlier, Blink 182 are the most overrated in my opinion, I just can't understand why they're popular.

We should group all the Indie music of this Millennium as overrated. They're all crap bands. The Wombats being the worst.

The Beatles were the first manufactured boy band and their music has not stood the test of time. Banal songwriting and throwaway lyrics make them criminally overrated.

The Kinks were by far the better band at the time with quirky original songwriting and intelligent thoughtful lyrics.

Any band that comes out with "Yellow Submarine" are to be dismissed as not serious.

  15. The second half of that album is like lift muzak, I'll grant you.

Can't just dismiss the Beatles out of hand, though - no-one else has ever been so influential and played a bigger part in shaping pop music along with LOADS of nigh-on perfect songs.

This thread is dangerous ground - i reckon nearly every band ever is over-rated

And yet They've sold over a Billion records, 29 No.1 singles in the US/UK, revolutionized the way songs were recorded, were the first band to implement feedback in their work, completely changed Youth Culture of the 60's, manufactured the popular ideal of music videos amongst many other reasons.

And this was all done within a decade...

F Applause Absolutely spot on ER - Kinks were vastly superior and had far more influence on some of the real greats of the alst 40 years than the other lot - the Beatles thought they were funny and original - the Kinks just were.

Just because they sell a lot of records means they are brilliant? Like Take That, Boyzone, Daniel O Donnel, The Spice Girls.

The Beatles were vastly overrated and their two only decent songs were written by George Harrison - Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Lennon and McCartney were piss poor tunesmiths. Passable when they wrote together and ****in' hopeless on their own. Absolute drivel which the teenybopper girls lapped up.
