I thought it would be a good idea to get a positive spin on the most disliked saints player thread,so tell us who you liked as a player, not footballing ability but just as a person and how he came across. Mine is Marian Pahars, just loved him and still do,seemed a nice guy.Antti Niemi seemed a decent fella as well.Oh and of course Nigel,he's always happy!
Kelvin because he came back when he could have signed for West Ham. Yes, I know there were probably personal reasons behind it as well but I'm sure he also loves Saints. Matty for same reason. Also love Marian...if only he'd stayed fitter longer.
Adam Lallana. Never seen such a committed player. Does a lot of charity and a good guy all round! He will be a legend and personally I think he will stay for his career. (If we keep progressing upwards anyway)
James beattie great player, and his celebration mocking the pompey fans will always be a great memory.
Adam Lallana is probably the nicest player i've ever met. He is a very normal and down-to-earth lad despite having such ability and influence in the team. Marian Pahars was always friendly aswell as others have said. Of the new additions; Steve De Ridder and Jack Cork are very humble guys aswell it seems. With regard to Le Tissier, despite being a legend obviously - I always got the impression from him that he held himself in high regard. From the times i've met him, I don't think he is really all that humble sadly.
Marian. If for some reason we ever lose Adkins as a manager, I want Marian to replace him. Also Le Tiss for obvious reasons.
Going back a while but Dave Armstrong was one of my all time fave's. Brilliant knack of scoring vital goals.
This is my dream as well... In about 2017, Nigel retires from management, takes up a backroom/board role, and Marian takes over as boss.
James Beattie Nigel Quashie Kelvin Davis Antti Niemi Paul Jones Lallana Saganowski Ah there's loads. I'm a Saints fan so I love all the players, at least I try to. I was never Bradley Wright-Phillips' biggest fan.
Mike Channon - i have to be biased as we were born in neighbouring villages, my mum and dad knew him and his family, and what a wonderful accent he has
I'm slightly taken aback by the amount of votes for Marian. He gets my vote every single time, but I dont know many other Saints fans who share my view as strongly. I could probably name my most liked XI. Um, how about: Niemi Dodd Lundekvam Jaidi Bridge Lallana Oakley Schneiderlin Marsden Pahars Beattie
Davis, Harding, Martin, Lallana, Lambert, Surman, Gillett, Cork, Svensson, Perry (i only been going 6 years, and seen **** so thats why the players are so recent and current)
I always loved and still love Francis Benali It is the same kind of affection that you have for a slightly mad pet dog, sometimes it does things you think are plain stupid or feel slightly embarressed about, but it is easily forgiven due to its unquestionable fearlessness, positive character and absolute loyalty. I also can't have a curry at Kuti's without ordering a Benali-Biriyani on the side!
I always had a liking for both Anders and Michael Svensson, always found it a shame when Anders could never replicate his form he found for Sweden for us
I am genuinely surprised! I used to do quite a bit of business with Matt and I've never met more humble bloke. So, he gets my vote along with one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, Lord Jimmy Case!
ive met him a few times - seemed very humble and down to earth then, he was also very moved and touched at my best mates charity gig at what had happened to my mate
Chris Marsden I always liked for his sheer industry. What someone might call, "a hardworking, honest, professional footballer". Plus I could always spot him on the pitch from anywhere in the ground, in rather the way that Chaplow can.
