Just saw this article about making a team of the most likeable players - i.e. players that aren't dickheads of which the majority are http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/...ally-popular-footballers-team-likable-players It got me thinking - who would you have in your team and why?
Off the top of my head - and not confining to LCFC... Mark Wallingron Jimmy Armfield Graham Cross Frank Mclintock Paulo Maldini Bobby Charlton Alan Birchenall Ossie Ardilles George Best Emile Heskey Gianfranco Zola
Emlyn Hughes Met him twice. 1st time I was just about to start a job at an office that was hard to find. I did spot the office while driving but carried on to a phone box to ring the wife to say I'd be later than expected Just as I got to the phone box I guy was just stepping in. He then finished his call and came out then I went into the phone box and phoned the wife. I went to the office and into reception signed in and sat in reception In walks Emlyn Hughes and said "you couldn't find the place either" and continued talking as if he'd known me all his life. He'd remembered me from the phone box but I didn't recognise him at the phone box. Great guy RIP.
Wouldn't disagree .. I'll swap him for Frank on the basis that I wouldn't want it to be too LCFC centric .. Frank can have a place on the bench with Eusebio and Tony Cottee...
... cards have nothing to do with whether you are 'likeable' ... could argue he wasn't prepared to get hurt!! ... and I'm not sure he'd be top of Michelle Lineker's Xmas card list having left her and the four kids for his bit of Welsh Rarebit!!
.. you appear to have forgotten David Speedie, Dennis Wise and Paul Dickov ... could you imaging those 3 out on the town for a night together? ... and then, of couurse, there is young Joe Mattock.. ... now whatever happened to her?
Surely got to throw Neville Hamilton in there - bringing back the Leicester connection. Great football coach
Used to play against Neville Hamilton at school, also Des Dawkins and some bloke called Lineker .. (although he was a year younger) ..
Zola is a great guy but I'd have to go for Vialli - when I went autograph hunting with my dad when I was a lot younger, he invited me to join him at his table where he, Zola and Wise were playing cards and bought me popcorn! Mark Hughes was a bit of a dick though. Cantona was also incredible nice to my young sister under similar circumstances apparently - he picked her up and put her on his shoulders - but he probably doesn't qualify because of the Palace incident.
Johnny Depp is supposedly a nice bloke and I thought Justin Timberlake came across really well on the Jonathan Ross show the other night. Can they start up front, if not a place on the bench?
Only in Charity Games ... otherwise it becomes a bit of a laughing stock ... which would then bring in Ralph Little, The Chuckle Brothers and charliej18 ....
