John Ward said this on completion of the deal... On signing his new contract, Smith said... Highly rated Northern Ireland defender joined the club in June 2011. The 24 year old has adapted well to his first season playing in England and training on a full time basis. Strong in the tackle and a player who likes to get forward, he made a number of substitute appearances on the right of midfield during his first season with the club. This season has seen him establish himself as a first team regular, at right back, particularly since the arrival of John Ward as manager. A Northern Ireland Youth International, he has been tipped to receive a full cap for his country in the future. Smith made his Rovers league debut on the opening day of last season and has, to date, made a total of 54 league appearances. http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/new-contract-for-defender-775151.aspx Great news and fully deserved
Really good news. Most of all I'm pleased that we've secured our most improved player; but also we're beginning to have a collection of players who are actually worth something in the transfer market....useful for a 'rainy day'.
hopefully the raining day wont come.... everything looking good for new stadium so be debt free after so we dont need to sell unless a silly offer is made.
