So here we are a couple of months into the new year and I thought it would be a good time for a half term report...

...not by me, of course. I have some ideas of who the players hitting form are, and who we're expecting to see more from, but I wanted to hear from my fellows on the subject...

Obvious names are Steven Gerrard, Andy Carroll, Stuart Downing, Daniel Agger, Jose Enrique, Craig Bellamy...

Who are your most improved players and why?

Martin Skertl. Carroll is improving by the match, but Skertl has been excellent all season due in no small part to the almost contant presence of Danny Agger.

    This is really hard.

New players don't count so we have to look at guys like jonhson, skertl agger, suarez, carroll, and the like

i can reul out kuyt and gerrard for sure.

I think i'd agree with most... skertl with agger and then carroll for the past month.

Ithought skerlt played 38 league games last year wunder both managers... I'll say here's a bullet list to please RHC.

    1. Agger
    2. Skertl
    3. Carroll

special award for young player to SHELVEY... looks a new man after the loan out.

Skrtel over the season definitely. Johnsons defending has improved, spearing now looks like a solid squad member and mandy is looking more confident game by game <ok> Room for improvement in all areas obviously but great to see an instant response from the team after the mold trafford game.

Has to be Skrtel - developing great partnership with Agger -

AND -scored as many goals as Torres in the league -

PLUS - one more than him in the FA Cup <laugh>

  10. I have a dislike for Martin Skrtel but I have to admit he has been good this season. Same goes for Agger (good this season) but I have always rated him and it was just the injuries that were a problem, same with Gerrard. Johnson still has not find the form he had at Pompey and i sincerely doubt he will. Carroll has improved in the last few games but there is still some way to go yet.

    My vote goes to Skrtel.

Skrtel win's this hand's down imo. The only weak link left in our defence now is Glen Johnson imo his defending is really poor and I would have Kelly instead of him all day long.

Can't believe how much Skrtel has improved. This time last year most of us were against him starting because of the mistakes he was prone to making. Can't believe what a solid defender he has become.

Well, its looking pretty much a clean sweep out there.

Martin Skrtel is the stand out name from you guys. I have to say, on reflection, its not a surprise. His game has always been somewhat limited, in that he's not going to be a ball-playing centre-half, but in many ways, accepting his limitations for what they are, you develop a better appreciation of his game.

He has looked much more assured this season alongside Daniel Agger, and the two are the partnership I had hoped for a couple of seasons ago, saw fleetingly and then was denied by injury. As a pairing, I'm hard pressed to think of another pairing that has looked so secure this season. United have been disrupted by injuries; similarly Arsenal; Chelsea have seen a rapid decline of John Terry (will he jump the shark?) and David Luis is (at the moment) looking massively inconsistent. Citeh have had some solidity and familiarity with Kompany and Lescott, but have our men been any less consistent? I don't believe so. And would we swap either of our men for theirs? In my book, certainly not for Lescott.

Is there anyone we're looking to see something special from during the remainder of the season???

I think we'd all love to see Downing acquire a bit of form, Henderson IMO is coming along nicely, and if AC can carry on his improvement he might turn into the deadly No 9 we all want to see.

Well, Suarez needs to start producing 'special' moments that actually convert into goals pretty soon, to do himself justice for his performances and repay the club's faith.

I think with game time, Shelvey could really sparkle during the run in. He's improving all the time and always looks to pass forwards (something Gerrard has always done).

In terms of further improvements, as a team I think what we've obviously lacked this year is good quality from wide areas and goals so if Downing and Mandy find good form we could be flying during the remainder of the season. A better goal ratio from Suarez and a good, regular midfield partner for Stevie G (Ch'Adam or Spears) to fill the Lucas void would be a bonus too <ok>

Two goals in two games plus he created plenty the other day ( yes I know "only" brighton) but he certainly looked sharp again.
