It has taken LvG until March to get UTD to play fun football!!1 UTD should be near the bottom of entertaining this season, but still ahead of Routemaster FC, Boring, boring Chavski
It's written by Alan Smith, star of George Graham's utterly dull Arsenal side. What the **** would he know? Picks his own club and the one that most closely resembles the playing style of his successes. Boring, dull, dour, defensive? Brilliant! Flicks ons from the big man? You're in! What's next? "We ask Katie Price for her opinion on the classiest ladies in Britain"?
I think we can write this off as bollocks to be fair. Entertainment and quality are not one and the same btw. Most english football fans think kick and rush is quality football. Its not. It is entertaining though. Chelsea fans think defensive, gutless football is both quality and entertaining. It's neither. Very much the opposite.
I don't think that anyone doubts Chelsea's quality, as they're clearly a very good team with an extremely successful manager. They're very good at totally nullifying games entirely when they need to, though. PSG excepted. I don't find that entertaining. Best team in the league? Clearly. One of the most entertaining? Not in the second half of the season. Not by a long shot.
You're confusing entertainment and efficient. Think of a German. Hes probably great at spreadsheets and reaching targets but his career as a stand up would be a disaster. Hes just not entertaining. Chelsea are like that. Very efficient and effective. Buzz killington when it comes yo entertainment though.
Looking at this as objectively as I can, and without letting any undue bias creep in... I'd have to say that 'Pool has been the most entertaining football team for me, this season. Pure comedy gold.
Whilst Chelsea have been very negative in the big games and have been quite dour in the 2nd half of the season, the most dull team award must go to the Man United. Since the start of the season they've been boring, preferring to pass the ball between the back 3/back 4 and keeping possession all game long without any creative muscle out there. They then bought Di Maria who entertained us for a a few games until they got played off the park at Leicester and Van Gaal reverts back to his pragmatic conservative self and decides to bore us to death with his uninspiring possession football exemplified by his most creative player in Mata not getting a look in. His master plan in half of those games is to sub felleini on and play long ball to him (at least the ball is going forward) and this is the extent to Uniteds entertainment. He finally gets it right with Mata in the side and beats some top teams on the way with some entertainment (spurs, pool, city). Unfortunately he's reverted to norm recently and his rigid triangles and possession football is back to bore us again i think.
Who said we weren't boring early in the season? We were working towards something. An identity, a style of play renowned worldwide. Thats not the case with Chelsea. Its the norm for you with the odd, rare, infrequent performance you would expect from one of the best sides in the league.
All the leading sides have had spells of either poor/inconsistent form or self imposed timidity. Arsenal have probably played the most entertaining football, sometimes without an end product and sometimes because the wheels come off unexpectedly - like Stoke away. Utd have been dire at times, City lazy and uninterested, Liverpool toothless, Spurs scatty and Chelsea unbearably tedious.
