Why no Taarabt MOROCCO did not pick one of their English Premier League stars for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals because he is a show-off. That was the frank reply from coach Rachid Taoussi this week to a question about why Queens Park Rangers attacking midfielder Adel Taarabt is not in his squad for the tournament. Taoussi said he wanted a united team without individualistic and ill-disciplined show-offs. Reports in Morocco last week indicated that Taarabt refused to meet the coach before Taoussi announced his preliminary side that would travel to South Africa, signalling a rift between the player and coach. Taoussi spoke after Morocco played to a goalless draw in a practice match against defending African champions Zambia on Tuesday at the Rand Stadium. The question about Taarabt clearly irritated the coach. "I want a united team, that plays as a team and Taarabt does not fit that description," he said. "I don't want players who want to be stars and show off. He lacks discipline and I don't want that in my team." The ongoing rift between the coach and the 23-year-old star could signal the end of his international career - at least for as long as Taoussi is at the helm. Taarabt has made 15 appearances for the national team since 2009, with four goals to his name. He retired from international football once before, when he was dropped to the bench for an Afcon qualifier against Algeria in 2011. He changed his mind and returned to the national team in October 2011. He is not the only recognisable face missing from Taoussi's squad. Another England-based player who has not been included is Arsenal's Marouane Chamakh. However, the striker has been excluded because "he has not been getting game time at his club - nothing else", Taoussi said. Despite boasting other established players like Liverpool's Oussama Assaidi, Montpellier's Younes Belhanda and Aston Villa's Karim el Ahmadi, the side looked average against Zambia. http://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/2013/01/10/why-no-taarabt
so he didn't choose us over country, all the praise he got on here. Must of been embarrassing reading.
Let's face it mate ................. Adel is never going to show any form of loyalty, it's all about him. That is a fact, whether we wish to acknowledge it not. We just have to accept that he's got great talent and lacking in all other departments.
The coach makes no sense two weeks ago he said he asked taarabt to play but he said no due to "personal problems" so what reason is it then coach?
what caught my eye was the fact that the coach spoke after the goalless draw in a practice match against defending African champions Zambia Taarabt may of produced the magic needed for a goal
Not a team player???? This year he has improved in that area dramatically and now puts in a real effort in all areas!
Some may have jumped to that conclusion but my understanding was he wasn't chosen. Their loss and our gain.
Happy for him to show off and stay with us. If that is what the national coach thinks of him then he couldn't have seen the new improved Adel who isn't afraid of getting stuck in and is starting to play more and more like a team player. I can still see him being called up, the interview with their manager may just have been a bit of a dig to get Adel to do the same for his country.
COL puckered up to Taarabt like no-one I've ever seen and praised him for wanting to leave QPR for a month. Then he rounded on Nelson for wanting to move into management. He's so biased its unforgivable.
If he refused to meet the coach reportedly citing "personal reasons" then it's still the case that he turned down the opportunity to play for morocco, regardless how slim the chances of selection might have been. "The question about Taarabt clearly irritated the coach." Sounds like the guy was snubbed to me.
TOO LATE !!!!! Swords, I think the sheep are converting to our religion !! Come on Norf..where are you ?!
