It;s 5.30 on a wet Thursday morning, just back in from our early morning walk and I feel the need for a ramble but no idea where this will take me.

We find ourselves in strange territory for Sunderland fans, the season all but over with a few games left to enjoy in a relaxed mood and a summer of real intrigue ahead. Now we all know that every summer is one of hope and anticipation but for some reason this one is different, when I say some I should have said two, Short and O'Neill.

Short has gone public on his backing for MON and his ambition for Sunderland and Short is not a foolish man, he is a man who appears to think hard before he speaks. This leads me to believe he will back MON, but, there lies the intrigue.

When we hear back we automatic thing big bucks, however big bucks it may not be. We know that MON can spend big if he wants to but we also know he quite likes a prospect he can build or an old fashioned pro he can build round. This leaves us with so many options we are all trying hard to second guess his moves, so are the hacks and are having to resort to even more plucking names out of the air than normal.

Like everyone else I try not to take notice of the gossip but still read it every day, don't believe what they write but tend to believe it more if I like the name they link us with and still cant shake this feeling of unless its over 10 million he must be crap.

Of course this Summer more than most the players who may leave is proving just as exciting a game as who will arrive.

Yes it is a strange time to be a Sunderland fan, dreading season end and life without football but cant wait for season end to see what the summer holds.

Ramble over, for those who made it to the end, well done, try not to wake those who fell by the wayside after paragraph one, wake up Cest.

A quick look on SAFC will show you that quite a few players need be let go to trim the expenditure. The biggest concern must be how to get rid of them, when most will be sitting pretty on well earning contracts while the GFC continues to limit willing buyers.

Personally I would now like to fast forward to the opening of the transfer window - I think there wll be more going out than comes in.

Of those out on loan at the moment only Liam Noble at Carlsle has caught my attention and if they get in to the play off's that will give him even more experience. The rest I have pretty much forgotten about.

I suspect that for all of the names we see being bandied about for players coming in from the so called experts n the press the club will as ever pull something out of the hat that surprises us all.
