Morning Peeps, A 1-1 home draw against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday kept us in the chasing pack of the play offs and gave Wednesdays their first point of the season..... Was it two points dropped, or a valuable point gained??? Great finish by McCormack!!! His goal celebration was obviously aimed at GFH as if to say ' listen to the fans, I don't won't to go anywhere'. Agree? What has this game taught us??? To me, it shows we do not have enough quality in our side. We need two more quality signings, a winger, and a central defender. We still look too one dimensional, though everyone will have to admit, we look a lot better then last season..... There is only two weeks left in the transfer window. Will we need to sell before we can buy??? Which three teams can you see getting relegated this season?
Morning Elland. I think youre first comment tells a story. Draw keeps us in chasing pack of play offs. Three games in and we all know already were not good enough for autos. As for the game, we were only worth a draw. To be honest the last two games have been dire and the lack of quality is glaringly obvious. As for selling, we dont have anyone to sell. Wont get anything for Diouf and anyone thinking Ross can be sacrificed is living in a dream world. He's a class above anything else we had on the field. Can someone please explain to me why our new leader stated gfh had given the all clear to mcd to sign a centre half and a winger, yet mcd says he has to offload first. Theyre two very different messages, one is lying and it's odds on its gfh. As for our signings so far, Murphy looks really promising, Hunt doesnt seem to add anything new to what we had and Smith is the new Habibou I fear. Nest two games will tell an awful lot as will the remainder of August
Morning Eire, the funny thing is I don't reckon we are that far off having a good side. Two quality signings could do it....
I'm agreeing with everything Eire has said here. We have been on telly twice and it's a bit embarrasing to watch. I'm sure we played faster, flowing football when we were in League 1, which is possibly because we had better players down there, back then. Maybe it does just need another 2 or 3 good footballers to help sort this out, but boy do we lack quality. Murphy is a real prospect, Varney needs to go, Lees makes too many errors and is slow, Peltier is covering for Byram ok, but we need some width and a goal scorer. Rudy will end up being banned again before Xmas, because he gives everything and will catch a few yellows along the way. The Wendies should have ben a 3 point banker
Morning all, the Leeds team i watched on Saturday is just not good enough, we need a striker big time, if Smith is not going to cut it then why the hell did we bring him in and wasting valuable wages? an attacking creative midfielder and a centre half must be on the shopping list. Give Hall a chance on the wing as Poleon has got great pace but has not got any skill, he's only 19 yrs old i know but you have to start to show promise or in the shop window with a few other, Green, Brown, White (**** me sounds like an artists pallet, lol) Pugh, Norris and Varney, Lees would be given one more season to shape up or ship out, all in all just not good enough. The fans deserve better than what they are getting, and we have a tough few weeks ahead as we have scrapped the points up we have got so far, a few results against us may turn some people against GFH, dont forget we dont have Capt Birdseye as a distraction now. MOT
Morning all - Not so much as what it has taught me, more confirmed that... 1) We lack quality 2) We are a mid table team 3) We must sell before we can buy 4) GFH are full of verbal diarrhea In regards to #4 we are told by the board that they have okayed two new signings, REALLY is the manager blind to the fact we need new players, if he was allowed to sign anyone we would have them in the team by now. The Ross saga the lack of quality brought in and two of the managers signings sitting on the bench shows us all that Brian hasn't managed to get in players who he feels will make a difference. New owners same old story - Tell the fans what they want to believe for long enough and they start to believe in it. GFH are useless we will go nowhere under them, we will sit back and watch two transfer windows pass and our two top strikers sold. BTW two points lost
Agreed, first three points was a handball and the goal should not have been allowed, second game against Leicester the post saved us, we could have easily been sitting on just two points now and zero wins.
Morning all I've been trying to look at things from the "promotion in 2 years" perspective, here's what I come up with every time I try. Sure, we aren't good enough for the autos, but it hasn't taken 3 games to show us that, the squad is no where near that standard and even with 2 "quality additions" I'm not sure it will be. It seems that a lot of fans aren't treating this as something of a consolidation season, and now that we're underway the expectation has risen to the point that we should be getting promoted. Aside from the fact that our best XI aren't good enough for promotion, if we did get into the Premiership then the amount of investment needed to turn us into a squad who wouldn't get embarrassed on a near weekly basis would be huge. There are players on the book who we know aren't good enough at the minute, and it'd be great to see them shifted. Unfortunately a lot of them are on contracts for at least another couple of years, so if no one else wants them, it's going to cost us money we don't have to get rid of them. At the minute we are crying out for at least one wide player, then a center back. There's been some suggestions of getting a proven goalscoring forward in, and that could be great, but I'd give what we've got a chance once we get some proper width. We're lacking in creating chances at the minute more than sticking the ball in the net. I don't see selling Ross as being even a close to sensible way of getting these players, because then we'll need a new forward as well. I still get the impression that it is wages causing the issue more than fees, so we need to move players on. I also don't understand why people complain about the notion that we need to sell to buy at the minute, look at our squad size. We've got 30 players if you include the youngsters. If we bring in some wide players, then we end up with Austin, Murphy, Green, Tonge, Norris, Pugh, Brown, Dawson and Mowatt all competing for 2 places. I know Dawson and Mowatt aren't seen as being ready so they may well go out on loan, but that still puts us at 3 players over what I'd have for the center mids. That's a huge wage sink right there, because while they won't be on huge wages I can't imagine any of them will be on the smallest wages at the club either. Which ever 4 you pick to keep (Austin, Murphy, Green or Tonge, and Brown for me) I just can't see us finding buyers for the others at the minute, and that's a huge problem for us. Wow that was a long post for a morning thread, sorry about that!
We all now this is a consolidation season but that doesnt take away from the fact we now have another chairman who tells blatant lies when interviewed. Two new players ok'd, big investment on the way blah blah. The reason we are supposed to be happy with consolidation is because gfh have told us to be. As Ive said previously, it's going to be a long two weeks
Being devils advocate here, I think we can say that the contributors to this thread are all Leeds die-hard fans. All are being optimistic and glass half full in reality, but at the same time being honest to the fact that our presnt league position is better than we deserve. So although our manager wants the fans behind him and a full house, the Wendies game should have been a banker, but we were dire and could have got beat. top 10 if we're lucky and thats the best we can do with this squad. GFH are good talkers and think they can tell the fans what they want to hear, but its wrong! They are going to offload the majority of the club to more faceless/nameless investors and move the club on within 2-years. This is about money, not keeping the fans happy and its easy for them to say we will be in the prem within 2-years because they won't be here will they. It will then be up to whoever owns us in a couple of years to do something. So another couple of years outside the big league, losing millions in prem revenues because nobody wants to invest in our team. By the time we have an owner who could do it, it may be too late to ever get back up because of the divide widening every year.
Not disagreeing with you that it will be a long too weeks at all. I am suspicious of why that comment was made about 2 big players. Initially it seemed like McD was saying there was a disagreement with one of the players (probably Mills) about how much he wanted in wages. But he can't have been his only target? I'm surprised we haven't seen more movement on those "2" or at least more information from the club, even if it was just for GFH to say that he wasn't in a position to make those claims.
Well said Doc, that's about it in a nutshell. Pathetic to see Southampton who were little or no better than us four years ago in Div 1, almost bankrupt at the time and never attract any more than us to a game are now spending 15 million on a striker. 15 ****ing million, about twice what our entire squad is worth. How the hell did that divide open up over four years. Ill guarantee one thing, we wont be where Southampton are in four years time if this present lot of chancers stay in charge and pursue their current strategy at the club
Need a Centre Back captain type player to sit alongside Pearce 2 good wingers is a must, Tommy Rowe and Chris Burke would be my choices but GFH can only afford them if we sell Ross. I would do it. Up until the goal he was **** and that role does not suit him one bit.
Burke and Rowe would be amazing, but if we got them and lost Ross to do it then what do we do upfront? Go 4-3-3 and play a lone striker? I just don't see who we have at the minute who could play that role
Diouf can play that role and supply the wingers. Poleon could play off Varney in a 4-4-2. 2 wingers will change this team and a leader at the back and I am willing to sacrifice Ross for that
Morning all. Selling Ross would be a massive mistake unless we got silly money for him. Finding a wide player if Hall isn't going to figure is urgent. Getting a CB who can push/replace Lees, Peltier, or Pearce is also important. But not as urgent as a winger. I also agree that we aren't that far off being a good side. Not sure we're quite good enough for auto this season, but top 6 should be okay. Will have a better idea after we've played Watford & QPR.
With all due respect Eireleeds1 how many consolidation seasons are we going to have, it is not acceptable what has been given to the fans, lies, cheating them and lack of respect throughout. Leeds Utd have been a big club and gained respect along the way, the fan base has stuck with them through thick and thin, i personnaly think they deserve a better deal than what we are getting and with some urgency.
I completely agree that 2 wingers would transform the team, but I can't say I agree with Poleon / Varney being our starting strike force. I think Poleon will be an impact sub for a while yet. Though some wingers might let us see some return on getting Smith in, because like others here I'm questioning what he is bringing to the table at the minute
From what I have seen of smith I can guarantee he will not make it as a Leeds United player clumsy and slow. Poleon is a goalscorer and I have faith in him he is rapid and causes defences a lot of problems. Him and Diouf up top could be good need to stop hoofing it and play balls round the Centre Backs for dom to run onto
NO no no. Get Burke and Rowe and keep Ross. No selling, no sacrifices. I'm ****ing sick of it and Im going to throw my mac through the ****ing window with temper and send gfh the bill for repairs. I dont care where they get the money for players but selling has not, is not and never will be an option in my books
