Good Morning Y'all Could we see the start of a new youth era? The Turner twins are the latest academy products to be recalled by their loan spell at Chester. Now that we are safe, could we see McDermott experiment with the starting XI. Nathan and ewis join Poleon who was recalled a fortnight ago, but has as yet not been used. One youngster who won't be used is 18 year old Simon Lenighan, who is currently on trial for rape, sexual assault and perverting the cause of justice. Looking back on the season, if we had turned just three of our losses into victories, we would be sitting pretty in the middle of the play offs. Think about the amount of times we have let in last minute goals or failed to defend a lead. I don't think the league table has ever been as tight. Mcdermott has promised to give Leeds Unitedâs board a frank outline of his requirements for next season after Saturdays defeat to Birmingham City. I wonder how this will be different to Warnock or Grayson before him, I suppose only time will tell.... Many thanks to Durham, who has designed a new up to date banner for the Leeds forum. It is likely to take the site owner a bit of time to upload it, but at least its under way.....
Morning all!! I really hope we have at least two more youngsters settling in the first team next season. This is what keeps our club and academy going. Young talent will look at Leeds as a club genuinely willing to develop talent and push them through, unlike the so called Tier One clubs who simply hoover up young talent just to stop them going to a rival. Leeds are also committed to local talent, bound by distance rules, which don't apply to Tier One clubs who can sign youth from anywhere. The good thing about this is that local lads are more likely to get a chance, and they will be representing the club they love. The BIG danger, of course, is the ridiculous contract the Football League clubs signed with the Prem that allows the Prem clubs to take any youth player from FL clubs before they sign a contract for no compensation. How on earth this was allowed to be signed is crazy. Leeds were against the deal, but were massively outvoted, with the Millwall CEO (a Harvey clone) admitting they need the £240k a season they get from the Prem for this deal. So basically clubs lower down won't bother with having good academies as they get a guaranteed payment anyway, and if they do uncover a gem chances are they will lose him before they can sign him to a contract. And people wonder why England will never seriously challenge for a World Cup again.
Morning All, I'm all for these recalls, but what about Charlie Taylor & Zac Thompson. Anyone know if they've been recalled? Both were impressive in the little game time they've had. Hopefully their loans will have helped them develop. Guess it would also be good to get Cairns a little game time too. Is he still out on loan too?
WJ I think Eric grimes has more of a shot at first team than cairns tbh mate he's younger and an international youth can't see cairns getting a contract extension
Morning all I think McD will experiment a bit, maybe with one or both of the twins on the bench, not sure he'll throw them straight into the starting XI. I was wondering about Taylor and Thompson as well. It's been a while since we've seen them, and both looked promising. Thompson was shifted around quite a bit in the few games he played under Grayson, so it'd be good to see him in his preferred role (CM, right?). With Drury, Warnock and White already in the squad I have to wonder how much opportunity Taylor will get though, unless changes are going to be made in Summer. There's also players like Gimpel and Payne who have been linked with breaking through in the last year or so but we haven't seen yet. I know there was talk quite a while back that Gimpel had said/been told he wouldn't make a first team appearance this season though, so maybe we'll have to wait for next season on that one. Surely we need to be having a look at Ryan Hall in these last couple of games too. He was supposed to be so promising when we signed him, and we've hardly seen him play at all. If he's just not cut out for this level then we need to move him on. We're crying out for some width and pace in midfield, so the fact that he hasn't been used up to now must surely point to doubts about his ability?
Morning all, Turner twins have been recalled because Chester's season has completly finished and there's obviously no point keeping them there if there's no games left. I think it's just a coincidence that it comes just as our season is all but finished. I doubt that they be ready for first team action (they've been playing in sixth tier?), but you never know. Isn't Gimpel still at school. I know we all want to uncover as many new Byrams as we can but I don't think a lot of our youths are genuinely ready for the sort of exposure that this thread is calling for. I know we have nothing to play for so it might be nice to get 1 or 2 a game in the first team, but I think BM will probably look to play some of the fringe players (hall, drury etc) to work out whether they need to be offloaded in the summer. We have time with the youths.
Monty is 18 now, he should be breaking in pretty soon, I would hope...
Morning all. Word of caution Elland. If we had turned three draws into victories, yes we'd be in playoffs but Warnock would still be manager and we may have missed out on B McD altogether in the summer. Personally, I'll gladly forfeit the playoffs
Afternoon all. I know its our last home game of the season & we should be putting out the strongest team available, but I'd really like to see Habibou & Hall start on Saturday to show BMD why they should be retained for next season and beyond.
Do you not think two managers have now seen these two every day in training. One for four months, the other for two. Neither manager has seen fit to give them any game time. What makes you think Bogger they are any use. I'm more inclined to think they're just two more Warnock also rans that we may never see again in Leeds shirts. McDermott has enough experience to have already made his mind up about a few of them. Hope I'm wrong
Might not be much riding on these last two games for us but there is for Brighton and Watford. The other playoff hopefuls will want us to win, so I can't see us playing too many kids, or giving fringe players like Hall and Habibou a run out. We need to be seen to play our strongest team to ensure fairness all round, otherwise if we play a load of youth team players and take a couple of right hammerings we could find ourselves in a whole load of trouble with the League (nothing new there then )
